On Feb 3 Mike's Cabin in Shinchon will be hosting an open mic night to raise money for Rainbow Foundation, a home in Sihanoukville, Cambodia for children who are either orphans or come from families unable to support them.

Check out their website here

http://www.cambodian-orphans.com

We are currently looking for singers and musicians who would like to take part in the event.

If you are interested please contact Mike at [email protected].

More information to follow for those interested in attending and supporting this worthy cause. But for now, mark your calendars, SATURDAY FEBRUARY 3, 2007.

All the musicians DO have permission from Immigration to do this, right? Wouldn't want to do something not allowed while on an E2.

You must be joking. This is like asking for trouble. There is no way the E2 visa people should be involved in this.

...whatever. As long as they aren't cracking jokes on stage about President Roh, I think they'll be fine.

I think it is a great cause. It is worth helping them and they need a lot of help. I do hope you guys raise a lot of money for them....but it could against the regulations of our visas to participate. People should be aware of the fact.

I think it's a wonderful idea. I'd love to see the police harrass a group of foreigners for raising money for an orphanage. It would be the best bad press Korean authorities could get.

In all seriousness, though, I might be in Seoul around that time and would love to come. I'm sorry that I'd have nothing to contribute unless the audience wanted to listen to a boring white guy talk shop or pontificate about the world in general.

You can contribute with your attendance, and telling your friends to tell their friends to come.

I won't be hurting anyone's ears with any vocal attempts myself either.

That's crazy. You'll all be arrested. Did you register this performance? SOMEONE CALL THE DAMN POLICE!

Are you the guys that lurk in the English section of book stores and try to hit us up for donations?

I always wonder how much of that money actually goes to those in need.

None I would suspect. I remember once one of them kinda caught me off guard in Bandi & Loomis in COEX. I knew I had a mound of man wons in one pocket and a fiver in the pocket. I gave him a fiver. "Sorry this is all the cash I have on me right now." Bastard kept going on about how much even more money would help yaddie yaddie. I just told him pointedly. "Look, I gave you 5,000. I said that's all I have to give you. Thank you. Good bye."

Yeah, OP, what % of funds raised actually GOES to help? Where can we view online documentation? The web site you provide seems to say nothing except it's ostensibly a registered charity.

If the orphanage is around Siem Reap or Pnom Phen I could go check it out next week and see if they're getting any foreign funding from Korea.

It's really sad that we have to even have to give our visa status a second thought. Honestly though, I really don't think that raising money for an orphanage will get anyone in any kind of heat. Let's be reasonable.
