|
|
| I'll be arriving next week loaded down with tons of luggage, so I'll need to take a taxi rather than a shuttle bus for my trip into Seoul. I'll be staying at a hostel in Jongno-gu, and am curious about the fare. Will it be uber-expensive? Do I have to do my homework to find a legit meter taxi a la Bangkok? |

It would be about 40-50000 won for a taxi into the city, if not a little more. There is plenty of luggage storage under the limo bus and you can use a luggage cart until your stuff is loaded. If you take the bus to Seoul Station there will be plenty of taxis waiting right there, so you wont have a problem transfering you stuff to a cab.
If that still sounds too difficult for you and you decide to take a cab they will all charge about the same amount. It isnt like Bangkok where you have to worry about which cab to take.
Have a good trip over! |

| Check into storing your luggage at the airport until you are settled into someplace other than the hostel. |

I agree with Mr Giraffe. It's better to take the limousine bus to Seoul Station and then get a taxi from there.
Are you new to Korea? If so, I would have the directions to your hostel in Korean and the hostel's phone number to give the taxi man.

I am entirely new to Korea, so I was planning on having directions to the place written in Korean (as well as the phone number) for the taxi driver. I found a place in Jongno-gu - the Windroad Hostel - that seems like a secure enough place to keep my luggage.
I'll probably just make it simple and take the taxi all the way, as I'm going to be hauling two akward bags of over 20kg each, as well as a bulky over-stuffed carry-on. Thanks for the help everyone, and if you have any hostel/guesthouse suggestions, please let me know. |

You should worry about extra you are gonna pay for 40kg of luggage, since 23kg max is now allowed (even for US where it was 34 until recently). And extra charge gets pricey since its charged per kilo per distance.
Regarding bus vs. taxi - buses stand outside the building where the road is. Taxis are also there next to them. If you can make it to the taxi hauling 2 bags, you can also make it to the bus. The only inconvenience is to take the bags out of the bus at Seoul station, walking 2 meters to the taxi and taking it.
I know one girl, Korean, taking Incheon to Dehangno (downtown, but north-east side) paying almost 100,000 won. And she is local. So... |

| You are making the mistake of bringing too much....keep it strictly at 20kg...trust me! Clothes are cheap here! |

If you do get a taxi, just be careful NOT to take one which is marked "모범." These are the "model," or deluxe, taxis, which charge considerably more than standard ones. They're usually (if not always) black.
Flagfall on one of these model taxis will be around 4500 won. A standard taxi will start, I think, at around 1600. If in doubt, just glance at the meter when you get in the cab. |

There really is plenty of luggage space on the "limousine" buses. More in truth than in a taxi.
They cost around 12,000 KRW. |
