He'll look good playing badly there, and the money is nice for him and Posh and their badly named kids, and they can all go hang out with tomcat and wank off at scientology gatherings together.

Maybe he was tired of playing in front of an audience. |

This geezer obviously knows nothing about sport and is just bleating,
"David Beckham will have a greater impact on soccer in America than any athlete has ever had on a sport globally," said Timothy J. Leiweke, president & CEO, AEG
what a wanker. |

well...for those of us who live in the states and follow soccer and are unable to go watch the likes of ronaldo, henry, rooney etc play...this should make MLS a bit more exciting to watch. now that Beckham signed, teams are in talks with Edgar Davids and Ronaldo.
yeah...these guys are in the twilight of their careers, but at least i'll be able to see them play in person.

His new deal, a three-way partnership between MLS, AEG and adidas, will guarantee him at least $190 million over the life of the deal, and perhaps as much as $250 million over the five-year window.
That doesn't include his other endorsement money, or any income from his academies, which may push him past Woods this year.
MLS is responsible for only $400,000 of Beckham's paycheck.
The single-entity league voted this season to allow an exception to their salary cap rules that would allow teams to spend as much money as they wanted on one allocated player, provided the team's owners shouldered the burden.
That means that adidas and AEG split the remainder of the $37.6 million fee; adidas also gets to sponsor the Galaxy's jerseys next season and has certain promotional and image rights with Beckham as well with the deal. |

Yeah, you and the other 42 soccer fans in the US. Then again...soccer moms...hmmm... |

I don't understand why the poms dropped him so quick after he resigned as captain. Still an outstanding player with much experience to offer.

It's a Scientology name. They were gonna call themselves the Thetans but nobody could pronounce it. Should've named themselves the L.A Elrons. |

25 years ago, the North American Soccer League got Pele to come to the league to give the league legitimacy.
For those of you who remember what happened...Pele did not make an impact at all in the NASL or bringing fans to the stands...
For those of you who don't remember the NASL...I rest my case.

His fame was so great, even among Americans who knew little or nothing about soccer, that NASL attendance increased by nearly 80 percent during his three years in the league. |
What do you think one of the big reasons why there are so many soccer moms now? Pele put soccer on the map in the US. |

Sure!
Aging singers do Vegas, Beckham does LA. A great way to go out with a flourish; go somewhere you can still shine on and off the field, be a mentor to many kids and give the sport you love a shot in the arm in a country that has huge potential to be among the best.
It's not his fault the contract is worth so darn much. Besides, the vast majority of that will come from advertising and endorsements, not from the league directly.
Good for him. It's a mad world. |

I don't blame Becks for going to the States for the money and other opportunities he's gonna get there, but from a soccer perspective, it'd have been better if he signed for another top European side as he is only 31 as opposed to 34. Beckham has been beyond sport for several years and this move vindicates that view. |
