I know YongPyoung and Muju are considered the best resorts in Korea but what is widely considered the third best resort in korea and is closer to Seoul to than the other two? Basically I want to know the best place to go for a day trip on a weekend considering the quality of the resort and the travellling time. Can any of you regular snoboarders/skiers give me some info. I snowboard by the way...

Vivaldi Park is really good with beautiful slopes and good other stuff if you feel like taking a break from the skiing: good restaurants, decent amusement ride/park in basement, good video game corner centrally located, lots of young people.

The trip to the top in the gondola is good too with a good view and well stocked bar/restaurant at top. It is only an hour ride from Seoul (I'm pretty sure that there is a bus system there, but never really looked it up). You can also find your way around to a really cheap sled slope nearby, if you ask around (front desk is good place to start). My daughter skis but she still likes hitting the sled slope. I'm not a real ski nut and have not visited too many places but in fifteen years, I've seen quite a few of them eventually. There might be a nicer newer one out there but I am very content with this one.

You just take route 6 East and then just follow the signs. You could probably look the place up on web site. Do NOT go to Phoenix Park. The place is a rip off and the slopes are in bad shape, and there is not much else to do besides just ski.

Vivaldi is tiny and the lift lines are atrocious. On the other hand, this is where all the Domi girls go to keep their asses in shape during winter. It's eye candy galore.

What you really want (for a decent day of skiing) is Bear's Town, about an hour north of Seoul, or Phoenix Park, about 2 hours. Phoenix is neither great, nor is it as bad as the Xerxes claims! However, I'd choose Hyundai Sungwoo over it any day, and it's only about a half hour farther.

Seriously though. Hop on the red-eye bus in the early morning and do a day trip to Yongpyeong. It's the only real resort in Korea, as Muju rarely has good snow.

Thanks for the replies. I guess I'll pretty much stick to night skiing at Bears town and take the time and effort to do weekend trips to YongPyoung. How long does that bus take coming back???

It's a lot shorter if you have a sixer of beer. Wink

I took the bus from YongPyoung to Jamsil (leaving at 9:30pm) and we arrived a little before midnight. Traffic was good though, so some buses may take longer.

Am at Vivaldi Park right as we speak. Have to say it's a kickass place with lots to do, great courses if you're experienced (though there is only manufactured snow at the present) and very convenient to Seoul. I'll be coming back here deeper into the season.
