I've been in contact with my uni to have transcripts sent top my old man then he will post them on to me. I thought as it was going to be ten copies that owuld be a better plan.

I gave them clear instructions as to putting them into separate envelopes and putting the uni logo over the seals of the envelope.

So far they have managed to send 10 copies in one envelope unsealed.

I have emailed the lady again and told her clearly again what I require (it will be her boss next)

Obviously this is a bit of a headache.

My old man has now informed me that after looking at the transcripts they are just photocopies of one original and they are obvious photocopies.

The documents from immigration do say copies.

What the hell should transcripts look like? Should they be all colorful or are they normally black and white?

The university doesn't have university envelopes. They cost too much money so they just use plain white ones. So no logo identifying they haven't come from there directly (other than the stamp which will be on them)

Am I sitting here worrying over nothing or something.

Was it a university lecturer that got caught in Korea teaching with fake documents that caused all there problems?

UK University

If they are so confused and don't understand about the sealed transcript. Make ten separate requests and you'll receive ten sealed transcripts even with postage stamp printed on envelopes.

The official transcripts from my university in Canada are colourful, have water spots and all kinds of other security features.

I highly doubt Korean immigration would accept a photocopy that doesn't have any security features on it.

It wasn't a problem for my university to put each transcript into an official envelope with a stamp and signature over the fold. They told me that they get requests like that on a daily basis.

So I can't imagine how it can be such a problem. Your university must employ a bunch of morons.

UK Universities don't really get requests for transcripts that much.

Is that the problem, or is this the problem:

I have to agree that

The university must have some sort of work study program where they're hiring students to do secretarial work in offices. Mostly naive students who never had a job in their entire life.

So you gotta talk to the boss (Registrar) directly and make it clear to his/her.

Sounds the same as a lot of the ESL teachers coming to Korea...not to offend anyone.

its that same dilemma again?
I had problems with my first transcripts from a US Uni.
Immi. refused the ones i sent them, due to a lack of a seal/signature on the back flap, though they had the uni logo in the front.

I went back to the registrar to get new transcripts sealed with some sort of stamp or signature in the back. They said that they don't do such things, and instead could mail them directly to my employer (immigration).

I told them that will work, and gave them the address to Korea, they asked how much it would cost and told them about 70 USD. She quickly looked for a university seal and and even signed on top of that as well.

I left happily afterwards.

MRSSQUIREL- what "university" did you attend? You'd think they could handle a simple request like sealed transcripts.

I have just discovered this, and suspect it will become a problem for me when I choose to make the move. I submitted my request last week and had a call 2 days ago asking if I had a copy that they could just photocopy. When I explained that I had never seen them (nor heard of them until I started looking into the possibility of moving overseas), they said they would have to go digging in the archives....

I'm worried now that they may not have them to hand... seems silly that they don't keep some kind of computer backup. Even though I graduated back in 98, they should surely have some way of accessing my transcripts without having to manually search through information from 8 years ago Sad

The main problem here is that you went to university in the UK, but requesting transcripts is kind of an American thing (maybe also a Canadian thing, but I don't know about Canadian universities). You see, it quite common for a person in the states to have to submit transcripts. Thus every university here has a relatively well-polished system for doing it. Transcripts are usually colorful with seals and symbols on them. They are sealed and stamped by the university and can be sent by the university directly to anyone you want them to be sent to. Therefore, when the Koreans implemented this system, they did so with the knowledge that this is common in America, and didn't see any problem. However, my understanding is that the situation is different in the UK, where this is not that common a request. Hopefully the people at Korean immigration have figured this out by now. Just be patient with your university, explain what you need, and make the most of it.

Yes, a couple years ago, Konkuk University found out that the BA, MA, and PhD of one of their faculty members were all fake, and that the "publications" he had on his resume were actually published on his own website and were all plagiarized. When the cops went into his flat, they found he was growing weed. A huge media-inspired "oh-my-god-the-foreigners-are-ruining-our-lovely-country" outrage followed (which happens every few years actually) and laws were changed.

Yup that was the story that filtered over here.

In Thailand we are still in the aftermath of the Mark Kerr (Karr) scandal even though the nutter was innocent.

Verifications, criminal record checks, teachers licenses (this may actually just be a scam by the MOE in itself). It's amazing what one rogue whitey can do to the system.

The Thai's were initially requesting that EVERYBODY had teaching qualifications from their own country. I think that idea fell through.

This is v true.

My UK uni printed my transcripts onto uni headed note paper and then put them in a plain brown envelope and the sealed it. Then they put the university stamp where the envelope was closed.

No problems with immigration.
