Comedy Star Succumbs to Injuries
The comedienne and singer Kim Hyung-eun has died. She was 26. Kim died of a heart attack at 1 a.m. on Wednesday at the Asan Medical Center after being hospitalized due to a traffic accident since the end of last year, when her car crossed the median strip and ran into a breast wall on the opposite side of the road on the Yeongdong Expressway on Dec. 16. Kim, who was on her way to a performance, sustained serious whiplash injury. She underwent surgery to realign the third and fourth vertebrae and was showing signs of recovery when she had the heart attack. The hospital said Kim was unable to breathe unaided since she was taken to hospital and had to rely on a respirator. That led to increasing problems in her autonomic nervous system and eventually caused the heart attack.
Kim became popular thanks to the SBS comedy show People Looking for Laughter and recently started a new career as a singer by releasing a single, Destiny.
Celebrity friends say while Kims accident was not due to speeding, many entertainers and especially singers face the danger of traffic accidents due to so-called manager driving to meet their hectic schedule. Manager driving refers to speeding and aggressive driving showbiz managers are known for to get their charges to work on time. One staffer with an entertainment agency says some singers visit seven different places in the provinces in a day. "They have to sing at university festivals, on TV shows and in a variety of events held in the provinces, meaning they sometimes have to make it from Seoul to Busan in just two-and-a-half hours.
Their cars are often armed with flashing lights and alarms that show where speeding cameras are located. Another entertainment agency staffer says each of the companys cars gets about 10 speeding tickets a month. "Thats the price we have to pay not to ruin millions or tens of millions worth of schedules, and the company justifies them as legitimate costs.'"
Celebrities are increasingly aware that their shelf life in the business is short and feel pressured to make a quick buck while they can, which makes their schedule very hectic. Similar traffic accidents both big and small are proliferating. The singer Kim Hee-chul, a member of Super Junior, broke his ankle in a traffic accident in August last year, and the singer Kang Won-lae sustained an injury that required three weeks to heal when his car skidded on the slippery road on his way to Jinju, South Gyeongsang Province in December. The singer Tei was injured when his car collided with a taxi. The singing groups Wanted and TVXQ or Tong Bang Shin Gi suffered traffic accidents on the same day in 2004, which killed one Wanted member, Seo Jae-ho. Kim Dong-wan, a member of the singing group Shinhwa was involved in a massive accident when his van ran into a truck ahead on the Seohae Expressway in September 2002. It killed his manager and heavily injured two others.

What Troll_Bait forgot to mention.
She's reasonably hot - a true loss:
Not as hot as that girl in Troll_Bait's avatar though. Man I want her.
If I show up in my finest mink coat with fresh animal blood dripping off it and looking my best I might have a chance! |

Ah sweet hell, this is going to turn into a frigging "hot or not?" debate. Then europe2seoul is going to try to use it to justify his shallowness and it's just going to get dumber.
Anyway, it's a pity that she died due to the stupid bali bali mindset here. |

| a real tragedy.. the footpaths in Korea are dangerous enough, but the roads are obviously a real death trap. I'm sure the dopey ajoshhie and ajummas who are speeding think they are the best drivers in the world and could never possibly have an accident, short sighted idiots. |

Show some respect. Someone who brought a lot of joy to people died. If you have issues with beauty, save it for another thread. |

| I wonder if 100,000 Koreans will organize a candlelight protest in front of the manager's agency demanding justice. Or do they only do that for foreigners.. |

This isn't meant to be disrespectful-- it's a response to this rather crass comment:

Using that logic I suppose if someone says something that is not "meant to be" racist, then that is fine too? Ok, interesting attitude.. now lets get back on topic.. extremely sad one that it is. |

Considering it is about 500 kilometres from Busan to Seoul unless, this would be impossible by car....
I hope they are taking the plane....... |

The Korean fame industry is a real, eat-them-up-and-spit-them-out, machine. My wife was telling me a while ago how much Bi (Rain) does in one day. That guy works numerous events per day. He never stops. Sleeps about 4 hours per night. All because he knows, or his managers tell him, that in a few short years he will be a nobody.
They feel they have to do an insane amount of work because if they don't they will drop out of the limelight. Like other countries, Korea is very fickle. |

Yep, and if one 'talent' doesn't want to do the hard yards, there are thousands of others who would trade places with them in a second.
I get the feeling that logic is behind a lot of bad stuff in Korea, bosses
treat their staff badly? No problem, plenty of others looking for work
if one person doesn't want to put up with it.. |

KTX == 3 hours
Plane == 45 minutes
I'm waiting for the day when Korea puts in a highway system that Oz does: car goes through the toll gate and is logged in. When it exits at the other end, computer calculates distance and from that their average speed. No way a radar detector is going to protect you from that. |

No More Simply Slowing for Traffic Cameras
If you think you can beat traffic cameras by simply slowing down as you pass them, you'd better watch out. This year you may be racking up fines and demerits thanks to new "sectional" speed traps. More advanced than cameras that focus on one narrow spot, the new system can monitor an area from 3 to 7 km. The National Police Agency Monday announced that the systems will be tested this June in several areas, including Seohaean Expressway, Seohae Grand Bridge (7.5km), Jukryung Tunnel (4.6km) on Jungang Expressway, and Dunnae Tunnel (3.3km) on Yeongdong Expressway. More systems will be installed across the nation next year.
Sectional monitoring uses two unmanned cameras at either end of a stretch of road to check how long it takes a vehicle to pass between them. After dividing by the distance, the system knows the average speed of the vehicle. And the cameras can also perform spot checks, photographing the same car up to three times in one stretch. The police plan to slap maximum fines and demerits on drivers caught speeding in all three checks. "With more and more cars using GPS systems, many drivers slow down only for the surveillance cameras and speed up as soon as they pass. This new system should put an end to that practice," an official from the National Police Agency said
