I just want to let everyone know about a new Greek restaurant. Last night, my friends and I went to a new one in Hongdae and it was by far the best I've been too in Seoul. I'd recommend it to everyone who likes souvlaki and other kabab style foods. It is a small place, but a really nice one. It has hookahs too, which many people here seem to enjoy. Everyone speaks English really well and the service is top notch. The chef has travelled to Greece, Egypt and Turkey and has tried to combine the best of all their foods. The prices are good too, just about 3500 won for one souvlaki. I've seen cheaper, but not for this quality. It is called Sandi & Drak, Sandi is the chef. Basically go out exit 5 at Hongdae station and turn left, go straight up that street towards the walking street. You'll see the Coffee Bean on your right. On the far side of the walking street you'll see a KTF phone building. There is a street that goes slanted off at a right angle. Just go up that street a little bit and you'll see the place on the second floor on your right. Can't miss it. Enjoy the food.

I was there some time ago and wasn't impressed. There is no lamb meat available and greek salad is just regular mixed salad with some feta cubes thrown on. Nothing spectacular. Price is OK though.

Yikes, I had a feeling there's no way to get Kefalotiri (For Saganaki) in this country. Crying or Very sad

I heard the Greek embassy might have a little grocery store for it's employees, anyone know if there's any truth to that rumor?

And if, there are any Greeks reading this...where is the Greek embassy?

That is great news. I might try it today.

Greek Joy, the only other Greek restaurant I know if in HongDae, just doesn't do it.

You were there some time ago? It just opened last week. You must be thinking of the one near Hongik University, near the park. But you're correct that it doesn't have lamb. They just said it was harder to get in Korea, so they just have chicken and beef.

Maybe they changed the owner or something, but I was there in October 2006. 2nd floor exactly as the directions you described. Has kind of whitish interior - Greek style, fairly small.

How can they have the nerve to even call it a Greek restaurant without serving lamb gyros. Been there also, really nice owner guy, good prices, but no lamb. That's like a Italian restaurant not serving spaghetti.

Maybe there was another one before, but this is a brand new place. Just opened up last week and was newly renovated. There website is www.souvlaki.co.kr but as you can see if you click on the link it isn't up yet because it is a new place. It should be up shortly.

Yup...same name. I guess they renovated the older place and did a new "Opening" thing.

Anyway....no lamb = no greek restaurant. I can eat chicken at home Very Happy

Okay, just confirmed. Before last week there was a regular bar there, so not the same name, not the same place. And they're looking to get lamb to satisfy all the lamb lovers here in Korea. They just weren't sure of the demand.

Dude - there is no point in arguing since its just a restaurant and none of us are owners but if you really wanna know I had a date in Souvlaki greek restaurant on the second floor on that street near Hongik main gate (the one that forks near the park where 30+ foreign teachers hit on 18 year old freshmen girls) with one art chick attending Hongik Univ.

Anyway....I will check it out again when they get lamb.

By the way, don't go to Pasha Turkish restaurant in Gangnam near exit 5. Not much lamb and when there is, its mixed together with beef. There are also a few of chinese restaurants that serve skewers of lamb you grill yourself while drinking. One is near Konkuk university in that traffic-forbidden shopping/resturant street. Apparently, grilled lamb is popular in China as side-dish when drinking.

Dude- there is no point of arguing because you're talking about another restaurant. Because I do know the owner, the only reason I'm responding to you is because you're giving bad information about a restaurant which you haven't been to. But you're right it is just a restaurant. I specifically mentioned in my opening post that this restaurant is NOT near Hongik main gate. The one you went to is the one I told you you probably went to before. I mentioned clearly in the OP that this restaurant is near exit 5 of the subway station. Check it out sometime, or not. The name of the restuarant is Sandi & Drak, not Souvlaki, that was just the website address.

Hah Smile I see Smile

You know - that place near the main gate also has a coffee bean on one side. And there is also a slanted street, and its also on the second floor. So I was thinking we are talking about the same one.

OK - my mistake. The one opposite Hongik main gate, on the slanted street going up the hill near the park on the second floor called Souvlaki - skip it....food is mediocre as I said in my previous posts.
