This problem started a long time ago but now it's getting annoying. A lot of programs seem to download automatically via automatic updates, but then other programs need Windows validation to download and they don't download automatically (Like Explorer 7, which my wife uses).

What's the skinny? Anyone else not been able to validate Windows or found a way to bypass the validation protocol?

It would probably be illegal to do that, but this site discusses how to do it.

I used a program called mublinder. It's a bit complicated, but it will get you what you need.

Windows Update will install updates (not programs) on your computer without validation presumably to stop the spread of viruses, but the latest program updates from Microsoft (ex. IE7, Media Player 11, etc.) now need serial number validation in order to be installed.

If you are having trouble installing program updates, it unfortunately sounds like your copy of Windows is illegal. For 235,000 won you could never have to deal with these problems again. That's what a legal copy of Windows costs.

A bit off topic and illegal, but what a heck. You could always download the OS of your choice from one of the torrent sites. Just remember to look for a "volume key" or "Corp. edition" on the title and you can forget validation for good.

My copy is LEGAL. It came installed on the Compaq I bought 4 years ago in the States (yes yes, time to upgrade).

I wouldn't bother paying for legal XP right now. Vista will be available soon. I'll go legal when Vista has been on the market a few months and gets the wrinkles ironed out.

For the next 5-6 months I'm happy enough with IE6 and Media Player 10.....actually, I never even use those programs!!

True enough. Guess I might as well just wait.

Call or write Microsoft's support team.

That's the whole point of buying legal software.
