I know this is a mundane question, but I'm moving to Pusan in two weeks. I'm in the process of packing and would love to get some tips...essential items you wish you'd brought from home but didn't. Electric convertors, blenders, ribbed condoms...whatever. Any suggestions greatly appreciated! |

RIBBED CONDOMS!!! I can't stress that enough, and I'm not joking. They don't exist in Korea, and the Korean condoms are about 2 sizes too small and they are painful!!
Electric converters are easily found in Korea.. and while I've never even considered looking for a blender, I imagine those can be found (I think).
If you are really intent on bringing things abroad.. then perhaps any kind of electronics like a radio or cd-player.. they are super-expensive here.. (well about twice as much as North America).. other than I have no problem with anything else except condoms.. (which is a major headache).
The only other thing is bring a pair of shoes you are comfortable with or two. I hate buying shoes in Korea.. they are cheap in price but also cheap in quality. I"m pretty particular about shoes even though my shoes probably look like hell they are comfortable as hell. (I go for Italian leather which I wear deep into the ground until the soles wear out and the rain leeks through - which is already the case). Anyhow.. everyone is different.. but those are the most critical to me.. condoms being the #1 problem in relation to this topic. |

I'm going to ship a case of anti-perspirant over, before I return next year. |

Condoms aren't my department, but I've heard the same complaint about poor quality ones here. But I haven't found a problem with electronics here-- my computer and radio was cheap, although CD boom-boxes actually are unusual here. I do agree that the shoes here are poor.
As silly as it sounds, you might want to bring food. Unusual spices or foods are almost unobtainable here, such as Italian or Mexican spices or your favorite sauces (my kingdom for some mole!). English books aren't hard to find, although you will find English magazines scarce and overpriced here and you might want to bring some as well.

Definitely the pit-stick, yeah.
Spices, if you like to cook, too.
On the shoes thing, I have size 13 feet, which can be difficult in Canada, never mind here, and I'm kind of particular about shoes too. But I had a pair custom made at Lotte Department Store in Seomyeon in Busan a couple of years back, and they are beautiful. I just picked the style, they traced out my feet, and a week and 180,000 later, I had the best pair of dress shoes I've ever owned. My wife did the talking, I did the standing around looking imperious. Just FYI. |
