Maybe it's just in Itaewon, but why do they seem to outnumber all the other expats there?

Sometimes the answer is in the question.

I know, but what are they doing there?

I read somewhere there's over 30,000 of them!

Safety in numbers.

It's the only place in Korea where we are not outnumbered by Canadians and can therefore go out in public alone with minimum risk.

Yes, but you still have to be careful. For there be bands of marauding Canuckistanis living high atop yon Haebangchon Escarpment. You do NOT want to be caught in the streets after sundown when they mount up and swoop into town. Some of the womenfolk of these bloodthristy tribes have intermarried with nearby US servicemen, thus becoming semi-domesticated and bidding adieu to the semi-nomadic life of their mountain stronghold. They can occasionally be seen drinking beer at 3 Alley on weeknights.

Ms canukistan comes to mind.

I've heard a rumor that some of those bands you alluded to have reverted to cannibalism and put maple syrup on roast thigh.

This should be a warning to fellow Yanks out and about: Practice good OPSEC and always use the buddy system.

i always thought the isthmus of haebangchon was more dangerous than its escarpment, but to each his own i guess.

They are odd ones.

They're all just milling about. Shouting, "Yo!" and "Word!" and "Geckos!" and "You wanna fight, fag?!" at each other.

I understand scientists are working on a way to decipher their tongue so as we may communicate with them and learn their secret ways.

They are fascinating!

Hahaha. So true! Koreans, IMO, need to let the world in, let the sunshine in, starting with opening up the gene pool. Like the Amish and other religious communes, eligible females could be sent a-mating to nearby big cities (in the case of Korea, Itaewon). There would then be red-haired Koreans, blonde Koreans, black Koreans. With tutorial A/S (after service) by the male donors, Korea could become Westernized, globalized, 'the real world' in a cultural sense as well. Do you think this'll fly? Hahaha!
