Try to avoid this store if you can. They replaced Carrefour and when Carrefour went, all the good (foreign) products went with them.
What's left are overpriced Korean products. I was comparing prices and found that my neighborhood "mart" is cheaper on most foods. I guess you're paying indirectly for parking privleges at Homever.
What really hurt me is the lack of reasonably priced foreign beer. Except for Miller , they don't sell foreign beer in cheaper 12 packs.
3,400 won for a 330 ml bottle of Guiness? Ouch! |

Last time I checked, mine was still good.
Still, unless you are in a backwater, go to Costco! Even if you are in a backwater, go to Costco. |

I'm more often disappointed than pleased when I go into the big Korean supermarkets. Homeover is no different. Way too compartmentalized. I mean- spagetti sauce in at least 3 different areas in the store. Who wants to go through that trouble? |

Dev, you are the non-newspaper article equivalent of Real Reality. I guess we all need an identity, but that's setting your sights pretty low. |

The items that are price sensitive to me (products you know the price, know what a good price is, what a good sale price is, etc.) I found have been jacked up at Whatever (there are just so many good slurs... Emart... peEmart.. Lottemart... LousyMart... HomePlus... HomePus...)
The Carrefour store baked bread which use to go for 900 won a loaf (2,000 at Lottemart/Emart) goes for 3,000 won now. The price more than tripled.
The worst is the Carrefour banded products which were about half the price of any brand name... they're of course gone.
With so many competing discount chains in Korea, you would think a price war would be touched off. It would happen in North America. But collusion and price fixing I think are the order of the day in Korea. And Koreans don't care. They're happy because they're buying from Korean companies. |

Had the enormous disappointment of visiting the Homever store in Suncheon on the weekend. It was like walking into a 100 yen store in Japan. It was pathetic. |

I love it when people compare gauge stores in Korea based on how many foreign products they carry.
This is not a multi-cultural/multi-ethnic society. Korean stores cater to Korean customers with products Koreans eat. Take it or leave it.
That being said, I noticed E-Mart in Ilsan where Walmart used to be carries many foreign products such as smoked meats and hams, salami, real peperonni, has specials for 1kg beef = 13,000won, goat yogurth 2x500g bottles for 7900 won, etc. Not bad, not bad at all... |

What's wrong with that? Most of us on Dave's ARE foreigners.
Besides that, Korean stores not carrying foreign products is a problem I think. Many Koreans enjoy foreign products & foods. To suggest that they don't is to suggest that they're narrow minded and ignorant about the world.
I believe the reason why many stores don't has to do with protecting the dominance of Korean companies. Hey, the big food companies buy shelf space in the supermarkets back home in our countries so....
There must be some protectionism at work here. Big stores like Emart, Home Plus, Homever could probably make more money if they carried a bigger variety of products including foreign products, but they don't. Pity! |

You want foreign products?
Then go to Hyundai Department Store. That's where the rich go and there's where you find all the you desire. |

The ones people like - they carry. A guy who lived in France and wants to buy caviar won't find it in E-Mart.
As other poster suggested, Hyundai Dept, or try Samsung Plaza in Bundang - they have cool products. Also, below Tower Palace in Gangnam (near Jamsil station) which is one of the most expensive housings in Korea you can find many many foreign products - I mean all the good stuff. |

Isn't Tower Palace actually, Galeria Palace? It's right past Lotte Mart, and has a Lush store, Starbucks, etc. |

I've said it before and I'll say it again........
......When Koreans say they want to be 'global', they mean they want to do business (but only export of course!) with the rest of the world....
.......it does not mean they want their country to be internationally-minded or cosmopoliton.
Oh yeah. Forgot to say. Homever is terrible! |
