I dont know anything about Mildew.

Why do all my clothes make me smell like a little old lady?
How do i get rid of the smell?
How do I get rid of the ton of it that has grown all over my expensive leather jacket which has been hanging up in my wardrobe?

Thanks in advance

It might sound obvious but,

...do you leave your clothes in the washing machine for a long time after you have washed them. I used to do that myself because I am a lazy git!! When I'd pull the clothes out (usually after a couple of days) my clothes would smell, so i'd have to wash them again. Also, if you hang them out to dry, open a window to let the air circulate instead of hanging them right under the AC unit.

Check the filter on your washer (make sure it's empty).

..might help....might not....hope it did

Very Happy

We have been discussing this problem all summer:

Try these threads:

What da wierdest place you've got mould growing in your APT?

Towels, when will they be dry?

Humidity: hard to deal with!!!

Killing mold

(The search function is there, but it is not really useful. It was necessary to search on "mold." Maybe, however, it's the posters' semantic skills that are not really useful.)

I asked my boss about this one this week. Just out of curiosity. She said her family turns the floor heating on for an hour every week to dry out any excess moisture that may be lurking around. I guess it kind of makes sense. And the weather seems to be cooling so it's not complete suicide by dehydration these days to heat up your apartment. Maybe worth a try.

My job gives us 2 months off in Winter and Summer. I left my A.C. on at 25 degrees Celsius over the summer, and when I got bag everything was fine. My colleague did not, and upon returning found mold and mildew all over the apartment and clothes.
So, maybe one solution to your problem is air circulation.

I live in the basement of a villa and the side i'm living on doesn't get any sun, so needless to say I've been battling this problem all summer. Even with a fan and aircon on constantly, the mold still comes back after a couple of weeks - so I just clean it up every so often. IT SUCKS!! But, I just moved so I'm done with that cave/insect museum I used to live in. I just took all my sweaters and jackets to the dry cleaners because of the mold spots and smell; also, I had a leather jacket with the same problem as the original poster and it had to be sent away to be cleaned specially and cost like 30,000 or 40,000. Each sweater cost about 3,000 or 4,000. I'm not going to, but do you think I should give my hogwan the bill? I wonder if there is mold growing on my lungs! One of my shirts had red-neon mold on the collar. Tell me that's good for your body!!

When I don't live here I live in South Florida, I have lived a nightmare of mildew problems.

Use A.C. enough to dry out the apartment- an hour or two a day may be adequate. If not the idea about heat may be necessary. When I left for vacation I had a student friend come over and watch T.V. with the AC on every evening. She got to keep cool, and my apartment was fine when I returned.

In the bathroom and kitchen use a bleach-water solution in a spray bottle on all of the vulnerable surfaces.

Dry your clothes in a dryer if possible. Keep them all in an airy space- a closed damp closet is the worst.

The worst thing, for me anyway, is books. Without AC or extremely good ventilation, your books will start to mildew.

I am afraid that your leather coat may be history, depending on the extent of the damage. I did lose one myself that way in Miami. Leather shoes are equally vulnerable.

When I was a child in Miami, we had no AC and no mildew problem, because we lived in a very well ventilated home, designed for the climate. These little apartments with no cross ventilation are a real problem.

Oh, you can also invest in a dehumidifyer. In a small place they help.

I was gone for 6 weeks and upon returning home I paid around KW 20,000 for my electric bill. Keep in mind that I live and work 90 minutes from Seoul in the boonies.

sounds like a job for.........hippo suckers! any mart has them. the leading brand has a cartoon on it of a pink hippo sitting back on it's lardy butt sucking on a straw. inside these ingenious little devices is a dessicant. water from the air hustles into the little, white, plastic tubs and through a membrane of no return. when the tubs fill, buy new ones. they are won 3,000 for three tubs at emart, lotte mart, carrefour, etc.
two months ago i put twelve around the one-room and they're all almost full now. no mold. anywhere. not a spot. and i didn't turn on the ondool floor heater. so follow the pink hippo
sorry about your leather. gross, isn't it. that mold loves leather the most and sets right at home jungling all over it. horrific!

Captain Kirk- Thank you and bless you heart. The summer is almost over (or so I am told) but next summer I will invest in hippo suckers!

(But isn't that some sort of liposuction product?)
