|
|
Decades worth of unfair, racist even, attacks against U.S. citizens -military and non-military; on-line proclamations viewing U.S. citizens as scum to be eliminated from their pure nation; Korean racists going to Washington, D.C. to, in light of Korean customs, rudely protest and insult the U.S. leader and his compatriots in front of the White House; and, murders and rapes of U.S. military and civilians for the crime of being, again, an American.
Many of the Dave's crowd are likely not aware of the simmering anti-R.O.K. backlash in the U.S. For instance, Panama City, Forida has a bunch of people who've been following the corrupt regimes over the decades treat crimes against foreigners as no big deal. Roh's stint in Cheong Wah Dae has been viewed as an insult to the veterans of this nation and those who were fortunate enough to escape from North Korea. The guy with the radio station in Yoido is somewhat famous in the U.S. as is the author of The Aquariums of Pyeongyang.
God, it sorks to see a good country like South Korea, a nation with so many decent people, get picked apart by loads like the Korean Left who actually seem to believe that racism and Kimism is the answer to their future.
How many of you guys and gals would ask the Ministry of Defense or whatever it is called for a gun to assist the R.O.K. if North Korea attacked her?
What are the chances of the R.O.K.'s status quo eventually causing a loss of respect from Britain, Australia, New Zealand, and other states dedicated to liberal democracy and human rights?
Just curious.

kind of a tangent...
racism and nationalism here are so powerful. i sometimes wonder how this compares to pre-world war 2 germany. it was racism and nationalism that hitler used to seize power and motivate the people to march to war.
and there is another similarity, the first aggressive action of hitler was to reoccupy the rheinland. korea has a similar area, like the DMZ, or even northern korea.
i am not stating anything absurd like i think south korea will start world war three, but i do see some potential for big problems.
any thoughts? |

Most americans I know...never even think about Korea...most don't even know where it is. I actually wish Americans knew how a lot of Koreans felt about them....Let's just say a lot of Koreans would be on the welfare line.....receiving their kimchi and ramyeon vouchers.... |

As an aside: Most of the rich kids or the kids with parents with enough bank and balls to do it, have done a Tourist Visa stint in a so-called English Speaking Nation such as New Zealand, Canada, Australia, etc., wherein the kids received, on the taxpayers' dime/nickel, free education in English for 'X' number of months just because Mom and Dad decided to use the Host Nation's taxpayers for a proverbial free ride for their Min Hee, Jin Soo, et-al.
And the Anti-English Teacher Crowd here dare suggest that we are, in the main, emblematic of all that is wrong with the West or, minimum, not acceptable in their eyes.

Free my arse...the school boards host foreign students because they can charge them a ton of money, and in a lot of cases, give them virtually no esl assistance. A lot of school boards that are struggling with shrinking enrollments have targeted foreign students to bolster numbers of pupils, and to get a huge windfall of cash. It ain't charity. |

One should ask if they are a tiny number of comparitively well-endowed school boards or cheeky ones vis-a-vis the financially-crushed school boards of urban centers in such areas as, for instance: the Lowell-Lawrence-Methuen, Springfield-Westfield-North Adams, and the Fall River-Brockton areas of Massachusetts; Manchester-Nashua-Keene and at least one comparitively large neighborhood in Concord, New Hampshire; much of the Bay Area or too many locales down in Orange County and noticeable numbers of school boards in San Diego County, Ca.; several areas of Mississagua, Brampton, York, and Scarberia, er, Scarbourough (not to mention The Beaches) in the Toronto Municipality Region, Ont., Canada; more than a few places in the Halifax Regional Municipality, Nova Scotia, Canada; and lots of other beleagured places in The West of me Mom's country, Canada, that, for now, since I'm about to crack a Heinecken and have an Esse smoke, are just too numerous to mention at this moment.
Thanks for having the nuts to speak your mind.
I am,

How does that happen? Where exactly? Some schools openly love foreign students just because they are $$$$$$$$$$$$$$. No charity. |

Hanara (GNP) and the newspapers are aware of the rise of anti-Korean sentiment in the US. There have been quite a few articles mentioning it over the last 4 years.
It seems to me the turning point when pretty much all Koreans doing/saying whatever they thought without any concern of a backlash came in the Fall of '02. There were the mass candle-light vigils around the country. 60 Minutes did an interview with General Campbell (??) and showed a clip of a flag being burned and asked him how he felt when he saw scenes like that. While giving his answer, tears streamed down his face. That was shown on AFKN and at least some Korean news shows. A good number of Koreans seem to have collectively said, "Oops. We've gone too far." |

Where is your evidence that there is an anti-Korean backlash in the US???
I'd like to see it.
A vast majority of Americans don't care for South Korea, don't know where South Korea is on a map, and the only recognizable name is Kim Jong Il.
Maybe there is a anti-Korean backlash growing within the US Government, but not the American public. The American public couldn't care less for Korea. |

Dunno if this post is spoof or not, but there is certainly a train of thought on capitol hill that is now beginning to question the US commitment to the ROK. Certain inflamed feelings have been noticed and while they are not the raison de etre for this rethink, they are certainly not going to help. |
