ED209: It's one thing to scoff at Christian belief and quite another to mock it. I pity you (almost). Can't be easy living as an encrusted cynic. But you've found a good home among the many atheists who inhabit this forum.

twg:

Canadians inventing the light and telephone? You're jesting, right? Both American inventions. Must be smoking too much of that bad Toronto weed. Hey dere, let's have a Canada-centric curriculum in our schools.

But you can take credit for hip-hop if you wish, since it's a load of crap.

blase:

Nothing like a gross generalization, imagining that all Bush supporters are fundamentalists. And by the way, I've known atheists who were as narrow-minded as the worst fundamentalist, so where does that put you?

Not exactly. I meant that all Dumbamentalists voted for Bush. And that was enough to swing the vote his way. I agree with you on the atheist thing, they are narrow-minded and boorish. I count myself as a believer in some greater power that we are not aware of, yet. If someone wants to call that "God", fine by me.

Now I know why there is so much anti-americanism...

People like Mcgarette whateverthef.uck t are around erecting petty
little nationalistic barriers around people.

Like you know how the man felt about Canada and the States.
And even if you create something at the behest of someone else, you are still creating it. Why try to take that away from the guy, only to say that he considered himself American (I'm sure you were best friends and all)?

Ok, pin an "I'm an American d.ickhead" button on you: you've been to the basketball hall of fame and believed whatever you read there... Rolling Eyes

The Bible does not say that it is a sin to be rich. It DOES say that the LOVE of money is the root of all evil. It also says that it would be easier for a camel to fit thru the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter into heaven.

I know it's off topic, but just a couple of things about this, regarding newer translations of the Bible.

1. A slight but important difference is that money is the root of all kinds of evil. Translations vary, but let's think about it logically: money often has nothing to do with a man wanting to fornicate, or many other evils. All kinds, though, makes more sense.

2. The correct translation of camel should actually be rope. All the talk about an eye of a needle being a slit in the wall around Jerusalem was just ad hoc speculation to justify a bad translation.

These two extremely common misunderstandings point to a major reason why I apostacized.

Well, having once been a part of the Dumbdamentalist crowd, and the member of a church with a multi-million dollar bank account, I can say this: they don't typically ignore the problem, so much as they rationalize it away. "Oh, I give x amount of dollars to charity, and I do my best to remain humble. I'm so humble, I think I am personally the exception to Jesus's rule." All absolute rubbish.

Yep. In "the purpose driven life", Rick Warren talks pretty literally about the bible. But, tellingly, he mentions that more than a decade after he began his church, he realized he had sort of "forgotten" about that part of the bible. More tellingly, he had chosen to move from Texas and start his church in one of the richest area in the world, orange county. The wealth his church rakes in is staggering. At least he does a lot with it for charity, allegedly, and hasn't built a crystal cathedral, but damn, if dumbamentalists seem to love money and the pursuit of america inc. even if it means bombing other countries into the stone-age.

I'm not trying to take anything away from the guy, as you believe. But the fact is he was given some parameters for designing a new game, which he himself was happy to acknowledge. So why can't you?

He was proud to become an American, as the land gave him the opportunities he was seeking like so many other immigrants.

Sorry to burst your bubble.

Rap is crap,
Hip hop is slop.

Hey, look, I made a simple Simon rhyme. Maybe I should cut a deal for a CD too.

Your rhymes are weak. There is some incredible good hip hop out there (I am a big fan of the Roots myself). Just cause 50 cent and his ilk are making America dumber doesn't mean you should condem the whole genre. Look at country, it blows, hard. Yet I still have room in my heart for Mr. Cash and Willie.

I know my rhyme was crap and that's the point. Rap is crap too.

Lots of easy couplets strung together with a thump, thump sound.

MC Hammer was good, though. He actually had talent.

Shifter:

I don't doubt there are a few good ones out there but as long as they condone the majority in their midst with their gansta aura, badmouthing of women, and appeal to our basest insticts, I'm not willing to fork out money to listen to them.

And before anyone accuses me of racism, I think most heavy metal is crap too.

Reason # 2 Steve is an idiot: Steve Nash...

Reason # 3 Here's the lyrics to a hip hop song:

Do you know who you are..
Do you know who you are fucking with?
Do you know the access to weapons money and power
that we have? We will fucking kill you!

I'm the ugliest version of passed down toxic capitalist
rapid emcee perversion I'm America!
Your bleeding heart liberal drivel gets squashed
Wash em with sterilized rhyme patriot guided weaponry bomb
from the makers of the devious hearts -- I'm America!
You bitchy little tarts don't even phase my basic policy
The bomb's smarter, my Ronald Reagan's crush Carter
Prepare big tactics, makin young men into martyrs
(Come on down!) Come to my happy promised land
Smiley faced opportunity cypher
and jump on the CoFlow pension plan
A proletariat, crushing State of the Union
between serpentine words and mass confusion
of media controlled blurb advertising disillusionment
Your family will love my low-rent, low-life
no-brain, reality-dagger, MOVEMENT
Hop over the border for amusement; try to test the waters
that the other slaughter crews periodic usin
You up against -- Jesus Freaks, formin corporations in Young Republicans
Indelible NATO force hidden agenda, puppet governments
I'm lovin it! Keep the people guessin who I'm runnin with
Control the population and hide behind sacred covenants
Fuckin with me?!?! Means liberal wildlife burnin, gasoline seized
and an automagnetic third world printed with metal plates in they knees
Can't you hear the disenchanted, hide the scream of
Gabriel's reflected new wind instrument, a judgment played in flat C
I replace humans like robots in a GM factory (warning! warning!)
Then explore metaphors to sweat shops, cause the price is satisfactory
Your pious little cries of injustice get met with apathy (awww, SHUCKS!)
Soak, cloak, hormone injected dairy product
and conservative right-wing anti-eroticism; the poisonous
resevoirs and power lines in your neighborhood cause botulism
SENSELESS! Join the census, censorship sentences sentence
Triple-felon citizen paid pennance!
Dissension against C-F ends in penetentiary residence
Lock em up first, then ask questions
Omnipotent presence, my CHARM is the weapon
with cameras mics and satellites that leave privacy breathless
You don't even know the chemicals you've ingested
Urine tested -- BEAT INNOCENT MAN TIL HE CONFESSES

"Who's America? Who's America? Who's America? Who's America?"
"Who's America? Who's America? Who's America? Who's America?"
[El-P] I'm America! I'm America! I'm America! Mr. Len, get busy on em!

If he already doesn't know Reason #1, then he's a lost soul.

Every genre of music has its inovators and its cookie cutter pop followers.

as others have already said, there is some hiphop out there that if you actually sat down and listened to it, would blow your mind as to the intracasy and skill that is put into it.
