Hi guys!
I'm looking for a book with discussion topics for my advanced conversation class. I can teach them what ever I want, but I want to have some more diverse things to present.
Any ideas? |

The Modern Topics series is really boring if you actually do all of the vocabulary exercises and grammar points, but the actual topics of the readings are fairly diverse and interesting.
The reading selections are short enough that you can read them in about 10 minutes, do some quick comprehension checks, and then spend the rest of the class period discussing the topic. They're decent springboards for conversation. But I'd only recommend it if the class is relatively advanced and will actually discuss things without really blatant prompts, because it's not designed as a conversation textbook. But it works for me. |

It isn't a book but you might take a look at this site:
http://www.breakingnewsenglish.com/
It has lessons at two levels and each lesson has a nice variety of activities designed for that topic. |

Thanks! That site looks like just what I need.
Anyone else have other sites like that? Or suggestions on topics? |

TESL-J has a whole site dedicated to conversation questions on many topics: http://iteslj.org/questions/
There are some interesting activities here: http://waze.net/oea/
Try the advanced section here: http://www.eslflow.com/
As for books, I'm having a fairly rough time with the Pagoda SLE series, they're OK but not the best. |

I would like to recommend JAZZ English 1 & 2. These two books are designed for free conversation. They also come with mp3 files.
I use these books for my intermediate/lower advanced students.
Go to Kyobo (the one near Jonggak) and take a look for yourself~ |
