AP: Iran Gets Army Gear In Pentagon Sale
By SHARON THEIMER, Associated Press Writer
Tue Jan 16, 2:16 PM ET
WASHINGTON - Fighter jet parts and other sensitive U.S. military gear seized from front companies for Iran and brokers for China have been traced in criminal cases to a surprising source: the Pentagon.
In one case, federal investigators said, contraband purchased in Defense Department surplus auctions was delivered to Iran, a country President Bush has branded part of an "axis of evil."

I read this in the Times today and it is filed with all the articles about the 500,000 weapons simply unaccounted for in Iran but most importantly, the pink elephant.
Nobody wants to acknowledge that much American arms trading is through foreign proxies owned and operated by American companies/individuals in dozens of countries throughout the world. Most notably in E. Europe where American companies went bargain basement shopping upon the fall of the Iron curtain.
Lots to say here, about the well documented corrupt processes of privatization in almost all E.European nations and how for mere pennies, many desperate companies, world leaders of munition and armnament production were bought up by U.S. interests. No need to get official certificates.
Pink elephant. The issue of these weapons in the article, getting into the wrong hands is just a distraction while the elephant keeps killing and trampling in lands hither...

War Pigs
Generals gathered in their masses
Just like witches at black masses
Evil minds that plot destruction
Sorcerers of death's construction
In the fields the bodies burning
As the war machine keeps turning
Death and hatred to mankind
poisoning their brainwashed minds
Oh Lord yeah
Politicians hide themselves away
They only started the war
Why should they go out to fight
They leave that all to the poor
Time will tell on their power minds
Making war just for fun
Treating people just like pawns in chess
Wait 'till their judgment day comes
Now in darkness world stops turning
As the war machine keeps burning
No more war pigs have the power
Hand of God has struck the hour
Day of judgment God is calling
On their knees, the war pigs crawling
Begging mercy for their sins
Satan laughing spreads his wings
Oh Lord yeah
Walpurgis
(Walpurgis is the original name of this song - and it had totally different lyrics back then, but the same music. The only place where this version of the song is (legally) available is on the Ozzy "Ozzman Cometh" Greatest Hits CD.)
Witches gather at black masses
Bodies burning in red ashes
On the hill the church in ruin
Is the scene of evil doings
It's a place for all bad sinners
Watch them eating dead rats' innards
I guess it's the same whereever you may go
Oh Lord yeah
Carry banners which denounce the lord
See me rocking in my grave
See them anoint my head with dead rat's blood
See them stick the stake through me
Oh
Don't hold me back cause I've just gotta go
They've got a hold of my soul now
Lords got my brain instinct with blood obscene (not sure about this line)
Look in my eyes I'm there enough
Yeah
On the scene a priest appears
Sinners falling at his knees
Satan sends out funeral pyre
Casts the priest into the fire
It's the place for all bad sinners
Watch them eating dead rats' innards
I guess it's the same where ever you may go
Oh lord yeah

Gulf States Plan Weapons Buying Binge
By JIM KRANE, Associated Press Writer
Fri Feb 16, 4:18 AM ET
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates - Deep fears about the war in Iraq and growing tension between the United States and Iran are driving the wealthy oil states of the Persian Gulf to go on "shopping sprees" for helicopters, ships and tanks, officials say.
Some 900 weapons makers and security firms from around the world, including the U.S. and Russia, will compete for those military buys at the IDEX military show that opens Sunday in Abu Dhabi. At stake are contracts predicted to soar past the $2 billion signed at the last such show two years ago.
"The shopping lists are directly correlated to the threat perception," said military analyst Mustafa Alani of the Dubai-based Gulf Research Center. "For the past 15 years, these countries didn't invest a lot in rearming."
But now they're rushing to upgrade.
The biggest fear in the region is that Iraq will collapse into civil war and its violence will spill into nearby Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates, Alani said.
Those countries want to protect critical sites such as oil installations, ports and U.S. military bases that house tens of thousands of American troops. Of those five nations, only Saudi Arabia has no American bases.
