Look. I ain't a conservative guy. I just call them like I see them.
Hollywood just released another film. It's called Hounddog. This film depicts a 12-year-old actress being raped. The actresses' name is Dakota Fanning. I saw it tonight on Hannity and Combes.
I find that utterly reprehensible.
What happened to the creativity of film-makers?
In 1931, one of the best films in history was made. It was called M and directed by Fritz Lang. Its leading man was Peter Lorre.
This film took on a lot of very tough issues about child abuse. But the director didn't have to show that kind of crap in all its ugliness.
He hinted at it. Anyone who sees the film knows what's going on. But he doesn't display it in graphic detail.
I'm not a socially conservative cat. I love drinking; I love naked women; I love good banter.
Hell, one could even call me evil. Sometimes Satan comes in the middle of the night to ask me for advice.
But why does Hollywood have to sink to this disgusting level? |

It sounds pretty horrible, but I'd need to see the film first before I judged it. Is it just entertaining and tillilating a fascinated audience, or is it actually going to make people so sickened that they truly appreciate the horror of child abuse in a way they previously didn't? If it's the mostly the latter, it might not be such a bad thing. I wonder how the young actresss feels about it though.. |

No offense, but that's disgusting.
I'm a daddy. No way I'd ever let a child of mine--at the age of twelve--do a scene getting raped.
I hope society hasn't come to this. |

Well, actually I do feel uncomfortable about that too. But again, I don't know how the director and crew went about it. They may have consulted psychologists and what have you, and done it very ethically. It may be that the scene looks sufficiently traumatic, but that the actress was very comfortable doing the scene. I don't know.
Still, she might feel very uncomfortable when she watched the scene later.
Janet Leigh had no problem doing the shower scene in Psycho. It was only after she saw the film that she had a phobia of taking showers. |

Janet Leigh was a grown woman.

If white supremacists use American History X as a recruiting tool, then pedophiles can use this movie to get off. |

Its all more "pushing of the envelope". IT used to be that the limits of film and media were pushed so as to shock the audience into moving against various injustices, but you are right in that it was largely hinted at. Now, shocking disturbing scenes are largely added to boost box office revenue and reviews. I immediately think of 3 examples, not the best, but servicable.
Night of the living dead- the original black and white. I know, this is not what many of you consider shocking, but when you consider that it was a film made by a mexican director which showed a (hinted) romance between a black man and a white woman, it becomes shocking at the time. Furthermore, the method at which the black protagonist dies at the end (lynched by white hunters, AFTER the zombies are dead) the social commentary is gone.
Requiem for a dream- I consider this a middle ground as it shows both graphic visual horror as well as a upfront meaning.
Kids- Many people will hate me for this as is it was critically acclaimed, but showing AIDS, drug use, and graphic rape of underage children was a bit disturbing. Note, I would have mentioned the director's far worse film, Gummo, but I doubt many saw it. |

the singer lee jung hyun's first movie shows her getting raped, sexually abused repeatedly, she was quite young when she made the movie, not sure how old exactly, the movie was called 'kkot nip' and she played a girl that became mentally disturbed when she saw her mom getting killed in the kwangju massacre
that was one truly disturbing movie |

From your response, I don't think you understood my point. If anything I was conceding that even if the child was comfortable with shooting the scene, seeing herself in the film itself might still be traumatic. Janet Leigh's experience was given as an example. |

It's not that. I understood you.
But what makes me sad is that we are such a bunch of relatavists that the idea of a 12-year-old actress getting raped on film is ok.
What happened to the world?
You certainly wouldn't see this kind of filth in the Far East.
Maybe the Chinese should take over the world. God knows I'm losing faith in my own country day by day. |

I think I remember a movie called "Lipstick" back when I was kid where a young teen was raped. Wasn't that something like what you're talking about?
Edit - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0074802/

No one really has any outrage these days, do they?
12-year-old girl depicted getting raped on film. Screw it. That's fine.
I'm giving up the fight and welcoming the Chinese. |

Yes, because Asians really love and respect the sanctity of young girl's right to be innocent.
You are joking right?
However I may feel about this film, does not justify the fact that you are dumping on the west while ignoring the plethora of same or worse examples of this type of stuff in Asia. IF this stuff bothers you so much, then you should be the biggest lampooner against "asian values" and not be so myopic as to let isolated incidents skew your whole worldview. |
