My boss has asked me to come up with some ideas to teach with dvds etc..
I am thinking having the kids watch some docos and then I will write up some worksheets and have the kids fill them out and then write a summary about the topic...
thats one idea..
anyone got any other ideas...?
max time is about 20 minutes of video time,
anyone got any resources ? or know of any good ones..
any ideas are really appreciated..
cheers.. |

I put up a list of websites for teaching movies on my link below. Scroll down the page to 'M' for 'movies'. |

If you keep the sound low so it doesn't distort or echo then the kids in back can't hear. If you turn it up then it sounds like jet fighter pilots talking on the radio in a movie.
There is always some glitch in the equipment.
I handed out sheets with lyrics before and played a song.
I've played news video, wrote quotes on the board and acted out parts with my class.
I played a video from NASA that had subtitles.
When my father sent me a camera we had a lesson with parts of the camera, took pictures and then plugged the camera into the computer and put them on the big screen.
At the middle school the giant monitors only had computer input so I used the usb on the camera.
At the high school the computers are older and won't take the USB but the back of the monitor will take video straight from the camera. Unfortunately I discovered this after I had arrived with the USB cable and left the video cable on my desk.
My point is check everything beforehand for every room, take extra cables and have a backup lesson. |

I like using stories. Lots of stories and videos you can use and then extend them in some fashion. Usually retelling works for more advanced students. Also, they can design their own questions and have a quiz show afterwards. I also do A/B . One student A watches and describes the action to B who has his/her back turned. Then on the teacher command they switch.
www.nfb.ca has some great cartoon shorts. Of note, watch The Big Snit and George and Rosemary. I used to have the video of all the nfb best and used it extensively in the classroom. Then I lent it to a teacher who never returned it -- happens every week. Oh well.
I have many videos on my site, many stories and a series for teens about young women in London. Cool soap opera thing. Also, a full course on the movie Big. Watch , do all the activities etc.....BIG can be downloaded by bittorrent or is 17,000 won at Kyobo.
Try some of the powerpoints too. This is multimedia!!!
