|
|
This is my first post. Hello everybody
Im going to be moving to Seoul, or possibly Busan, within the next few weeks. I havent quite decided which yet and I hope that some of you might be able to help. The last Capoeira thread on this board is a few years old and not very encouraging. Does anyone train Capoeira Angola here? Or know of any classes that run in either city? A schedule would be helpful. If my fears are well founded, and there is no scene, Id be happy to meet up with anyone to play with. If you havent played too much but want to give it a go Im sure a few people could form some sort of practice group.
Any thoughts on that? |

Hey man!
A fellow Capoeirista! =) I studied Regional for a long time, and loved it!
You know, I don't think that there are many capoeira schools in Korea at all. I'm sure there is something, and you'll find a place via word of move I reckon. I know that Seoul has a place (if the address is still valid. They prolly move around)
Korea Capoeira
Address: Gangnam, Seoul
Capoeira Group: Filos da Bahia
Instructor: Choi
Email: [email protected]
Phone: 82-(0)16-328-0611

Im gonna be studying a Korean martial art this time around, but I'd love to come by and play in the roda when you get there one of these days

Hey! I used to do capoeira. I'd love to get back into it (though I should warn you, I'm more than a little out of shape). I never thought about looking for it in Korea . .. |

Wow I must plead ignorance on this one, its the first thread whereby I had absolutely no idea what the poster was talking about. I'll admit readily that im not into martial arts, but man I've never even heard that particular type voiced before. |

Brazil. Basically a fighting-form that was developed by Africans in Brazil.. they made it into an artform by making it a graceful dance.

Here's a link to a capoeira video. There are three types of "games": Angola, Regional, and Floreio.
Angola is the more slow, calculated, strategic version of capoeira which, I think, is the more beautiful.
Regional is the fast-pased, high flying kicking that is slightly portrayed in this video, and of course, the more famous style isL
Floreio, which means "flower" in portuguese I think. It's the more acrobatic, stylish playing of Capoeira.
This link has more capoeira vids. Warning: You're gonna get hooked.

Thanks for the replies guys, good advice.
I sent an email to that site. Apparently the group is still running, and Capoeira might be bigger in Seoul than I thought. He gave me a list of telephone numbers for Capoeira schools. Not sure whether they are Angola or Regional.
1. Yoksam (green line/ south): 557-7789 (Mestre Alegria)
2. Gongreung (bleu line/ north) : 949-4382
3. Dunchon (green line near Jamsil/east): 482-0322
4. Gildong : 486-7392
5. Daebang : 824-7863
6. Kyonghye : 967-9917
I will give them a call at some point and PM those of you who are up for a roda. |

There is also a Korean guy near Kyunghee University who teaches it. I am not entirely sure of his credentials. He is an instructor in a range of martial arts. He has a few foreign students and his English is pretty good. His wife is a well known Gumdo teacher and she now teaches French Cane fighting. |

Awesome. I have never done capoeira, but I have been thinking of taking it up these past two years. Also never thought of looking for it in Korea, but maybe I will take some classes. Hmm. |
