I am a Filipino and i teach in a Korean English Academy in Baguio. I hear a lot of talk from my co teachers about going to Korea someday to teach english. And it sounds like a good idea. I was just wondering how feasible this thought may be. Does anybody here actually know any Filipinos who are teaching English in Korea?

to be honest ... its not that easy! although koreans are very interested in learning english, they are not interested in learning filipino english ... the accents are different and even though most koreans will never speak english as well as you do, they hope to learn the english that the americans, canadians, etc. know, so oneday , they too can emulate them ... your chances of you or your friends landing a decent job here will be very difficult ... although i do know some who work at churches teaching children english, they get paid very little ... kinda like charity ... if you want to come here to make money, it will be almost impossible but if you come here for fun, to get a feel of what korea is like, and do not mind not making much money, its perhaps possible ...

i know a friend (gyopo) who got fired because the director figured why pay him 2 million won when he can hire a filipino, who speaks english, for 1.3 million won. well my gyopo friend found a better job, but the filipino soon got fired a few weeks later because the parents complained too much ... regardless, the hagwon lost a lot of students and money ... i think if the director is foolish enough to fire someone so he can hire someone else for less is doomed to have his hagwon fail ... and the filipinos here are willing to work for less but the parents complain too much and prefer gyopos or caucasions ... SORRY!

my mom, a filipina, used to teach private lesson way back in 1995ish when we were there, she had a good amount of students and made pretty good money... dont know about now,

There are many Koreans looking for Fillipina nannies so their children can grow up speaking English. They pay isn't the best...around 1 million/month or a little more but room and board are included.

i used to have a filifina coworker. i always felt bad because even though we worked the same hours and taught the same lessons she only earned 1 million won. she only got the job was we were in one of the most rural places in korea and she was married to a korean through the church. i've talked to many filipinos over the years about this question but i have to say i really dont know how you would go about finding work here, unless you went as rural as possible.
