Hi , im almost at the end of my contract, I finish in February. My visa runs out on the 23rd of Feb which is the day after i finish work. Im planning on going travelling with a friend a week later. Is there a penalty for staying in Korea for a week after its expired? I was hoping there would be a 10 day grace period or something, i dont want to get a hefty fine on leaving the country. If anyone could clear this up for me it would be must appreciated...... |

Go to your local immigration office. Tell them. Ask for an extension. Pay the fee (maybe 60k?). You will get a visa extension.
If you don't do that you might get yourself in trouble. |

There's a similar thread in the Job-related Discussion Forum.

From what I gather, you're not looking for a visa extension (presumably you don't want to work this extra week.) That'll cost you 60K.
You just want immigration to change the date of expiration on your alien registration card, making it acceptable for you to stay x amount of days after your contract is up.
To do this, go to immigration and you'll need to show them your outbound airplane ticket. I think it's free to have this done. |

Grace period?
Your visa ends when it says it does. |

But it's very easy to get it extended for a short period of time, until your plane ticket says you are leaving. |
