|
|
| In six months or so, I'm hauling ass to Korea with my boyfriend, for a few years. I'm mad about cooking Indian curries, so, can anybody let me know whether I can easily find a variety of Indian spices in the grocery stores in Korea, at a reasonable price? I need to know if I should stock up on ridiculous quantities before heading off or not. |

Will you be in Seoul? If yes, you can get them but you'll likely have to go to Itaewon for them - and they'll cost more than "back home". If you're not going to be in Seoul, stock up.
In fact, just stock up anyway - and bring a little extra fresh cumin for me. |

| That's right. It's just easier to bring them from home. You won't find them in your average grocery store. You'll have to search around Itaewon for them. |

You can get them here, but they are not so widely available and more expensive - you from UK?.
They weigh almost nothing, so it's probably better to bring 'em all with you. Sealed glass or platstic containers would be better.
Related, but if you also like hot chilli sauce, bring some of that too. Dave's Insanity Sauce is good enough. Koreans think their food is hot, but it ain't, and they have a low tolerance for it. |

I'm in Vancouver, which has a huge Punjabi population, which leads to innumerable Indian products being available easily & cheaply. My plan is to go to Seoul.
Thanks for your advice, guys--I suspected as much. I will definitely stock up before I go. |

At first, I thought the King was shooting ketchup at him, which I thought was funny...
...then I watched it for a few more seconds, and became very sad.
The weird thing is: what is Ronald doing before the KIng rolls down his window? Looks kinda pervy. |

Yeah, I wouldn't waste luggage space on them if you're going to be in Seoul. A couple of the little international grocery stores in Itaewon have them for only a few thousand won. Save your luggage space for something you can't get here. |

I dare say, I *think* that's the question the OP was trying to answer... |

| You can buy basmati rice and a lot of different masalas at a little halal super located on that little street that runs behind the west side of the Hamilton hotel. Cilantro can be bought at the super behind Geckos. At least that was the case last year when I was in Korea... |

Right. And I answered it in the preceeding sentence. The spices are available inexpensively here. Don't bother bringing them if you're going to be in the Seoul area. |
