Is anyone else sick of the Korean brands... I've stopped buying them, mostly. It seems that anything electronic I buy: Samsung, LG, Daenyx, Unitech -- you name it -- must be returned about 50% of the time.

This is why people in the USA do not trust Korean products. It's even worse here, I've found. Now I know why people are willing to pay a premium for the Japanese stuff.

I hear ya, Derrek.

But so far, Samsung has been okay for me *knock on wood*. I bought a video camera that's worked for two years mind you I haven't used it lately since I got my digicam. I also have one of their cell phones and a VCR. Last night I bought a Samsung vacuum cleaner with the hopes that it'd continue working... it's my third one so far in the last year, having bought other Korean brands before.

I will never by LG again. Nothing I have of theirs is quality. The worst was my cell phone which cut out after a year. I took it in to be serviced and had to wait two months. When they called me to say it was ready, I made the trip over to pick it up and found out that no one had even touched it. It was still broken. They said to wait 20 minutes and then came out with it "fixed". However, there were two problems: one problem with the screen and one with the charger. They fixed the screen but I found out later the charger was just made to look fixed but still didn't work.

I vehemently refused to buy anything other than a Motorola after that but when we went to the cell phone store, the lady at the counter refused to sell me the Motorola she had, and my k-gf sided with the saleslady. Since I couldn't sneak out to another store and sign for my own, I ended up with a Samsung.

On a side note, I had four alarm clocks just stop working in my first year here. Why? I will never know. They were a mix of Korean brands, Chinese, and I think Western. I suspect that there is something wrong with the space-time continuum in Korea. Wink

As far as non-Korean products go, I am happy to announce that my Sony Discman will turn a ripe old age of 14 this year and still plays like the day I bought it.

I expect it's only a matter of time before a Konglish version of this filters into the local populace. When you finally make it home, you might do so with the distinction that you have affected the very language of a culture. That'd be way cool. Cool

My PS2 stopped playing DVD movies a couple weeks ago. Plays DVD games though without issue oddly enough.

In the meantime I can just use my Xbox. Oh, wait, two weeks after I picked up my Xbox the optical out stopped working. No more surround sound for me!

Gord,

What are you suggesting?

That Japanese electronics are no better than Korean?

Just curious.
