I'm now over halfway through my contract. I've already said i will not be renewing, if they wanted a longer term employee they should've allowed time off and holidays. . anyway, i've noticed a slight change in attitude among the coworkers. Basically it seems that the fact I only have 4 months left is reason to write me off. "Oh, he's leaving".
A similar thing goes with k-women. they assume you will leave so assign you into a "temporary fun/ exploit english" pigeonhole. What they don't realise is that for foreigners, the future is entirely open ended! I could and would change my tentative future plans in a moment if I felt it warranted.
the conversations are briefer, there is no promise or potential anymore. "one day, he will leave" seems to be sense in the air. thing is, Koreans seem to move between jobs and leave from one place to the next more often than do foreigners. i guess they're careful not to let on until the very last 5 minutes before they quit. |

| I'm out as well. I will be finishing around the same time as you i suspect. What prospects do you have on the horizon? I have a pretty good resume and can't see myself going back to a standard hagwon but we finish at a bad time hiring wise. |

Big holiday,3-4 months. new travel to new countries.
return. probably sign on at a new public school. I guess I have one more year of elementary in me. No way I'd go back to a hogwon though. |

I concur, hagwons are definitely no fun. everyday, i get to go into work and bask in my co-worker's angry faces and all-so-unpleasant attitudes. i think public schools are where it's at in korea, they don't seem to screw over their foreign teachers as much.
i want to go back for a master's, not to get a better job, but because i actually want to study more. I definitely want to teach in Japan too, i find that place to be much more interesting and cleaner. |

| obviously it is too late, but for anyone else reading, if you decide you are not renewing, never tell them for this exact reason. tell them as late as you can. just keep saying you are not sure. this also works for negotiating... |
