Everyone here knows how stupid the E-2 visa process is and how tiresome it is to turn in the same damn documents to the same damn office every damn time we apply for a job. Everyone who has been here more than a couple of weeks knows how much gossip goes on. Here is an idea about putting gossip to good use.

I have an idea about reforming our E-2 visa process. I've mentioned it a couple of times and several people agree with me. ajuma said something that triggered how to (maybe) get it done.

I want a new process where we send in our diploma, transcripts and all forms to the national Department of Education. They open a permanent file on the applicant, look over the documents, make the calls to the universities, check with the cops and do whatever else it is they do and make a decision. If they approve, they issue us an ID number, good for say 5 years. When we apply for a job all we have to do is submit our ID number in our resume to any prospective employer in any city or province. [Feel free to modify my idea.]

OK, here is a good rumour. There are some teachers in Korea who
have such a dismal life that they post 10-20 posts on DESLC every
day. I'm not sure if this is true but it would be pretty pathetic if it
were.

I think it's a good idea. It'd be an interesting sociological experiment if nothing else. I'm gonna start today.

Great idea, Yataboy. After my recent immie battles it seems especially apt...anyways, I've started spreading the rumour as well.

Don't think it'll happen, but wouldn't it be nice?

I'll give it a go too, even though I won't see the inside of a school for about 6 weeks. It is interesting, because it plays on (not just Koreans) a peoples need to claim something as their own. Many other reasons too, but that was just the first one that came to mind.

good idea, but the problem is that the Ministry of Education is an appointed office. the person in that post is a croney of the president. and the post has changed so often that korean education reform is at a stand still. remember Kim byung joon? no? he was gone quicker than my hair! the new guy is Kim Sun Il... he don't care about foreign teachers, he is concentrating on retraining Korean EFL teachers. how do i know all this....? i work for the MOE. (but i am a canadian)

a better rumour would involve direct immigration reform...

that's my 1/2 cent...

I hate to burst the fantasy bubble you're living in but that's the most ridiculous idea I've ever heard.
I mean, it's a good idea but it CANT happen. This is Korea.
