I was at You Tube and saw some clips of a cool-looking hagwon in Suwon. This hagwon was clean, had a computer room, a breakroom with a kitchen, an entertainment room, etc. Aesthetically, it put the hagwon that I work at to shame.
So what would you like at your hagwon?
I'd like a breakroom. At my school, we take our breaks in the director's office. But there's always parents or future students in their, so the teachers end up sitting in the main lobby with 30 or 40 screaming kids. |

I'd like a break, first of all. That would be killer. A room to take the break in? Well, the teachers' doorless office is fine.
I know what you mean about the aesthetics. Three things that peeve me about our place: the walls are absolutely filthy with footprints and writing, there are no decorations at all in any of the classrooms, and many of the chairs are falling apart. Also, there is only one CD player that is communal and must be toted around from class to class, and it doesn't play CDs properly -- sometimes, they skip even if in perfect condition.
The hallway/stairwell never gets cleaned very well, so it just becomes dirtier and dirtier. Cobwebs in the corner, spit on the stairs.
Generally, the place does look alright, if you overlook the details. But yeah, the pics I've seen on the Internet blow it away. |

A large quantity of gas and a lighter. Most hakwons deserve to be burnt to the ground. |

Why do they use wallpaper everywhere? You can't clean it with any kind of decent cleaner. I know you can just replace it but a fresh coat of paint or a good scrub would be much more efficient and would collect less mould and dirt, if you ask me. It's like this in my apartment as well as hogwan.
At my hogwan? Books that aren't geared to Latinos learning English in the US would be good stuff. Also, on the same note, books without glaring errors in grammar and spelling would be fab.
I would also like central heating. |
