Yeah, I know, but so far Manning hasn't been able to make it past the playoffs until now. We'll see how is does in a couple of weeks. Not bad for a .500 team though. |

| Might be time to rename the thread. That was amazing. Now we just have to see what happens in two weeks - will Maning be the new Bill Kelly or the new John Elway? |

Well, after hearing the post-game victory speeches by the Colts head honchos, I fearlessly predict that God will either give them the strength to win - or weakness to lose - the Super Bowl...
(And I wish I had placed a pre-season bet on an Afro-American coach winning it this year...) |

Of course, Jim Kelly was kind of a dud in four straight Super Bowl losses, but John Elway isn't exactly synonymous with Super Bowl success either. He played very well but lost his first Super Bowl, and played badly (five interceptions total...) in two subsequent lopsided defeats. He finally won with the help of two Pro Bowl wide receivers and a Pro Bowl tight end...
Both Kelly and Elway had great careers overall, but Manning and Brady are potentially two of the best quarterbacks of all time also ... |

Kelly isn't completely to blame for the Bills' four losses in the Super Bowl, remember the 20-19 loss to the Giants on a last-second FG miss by John Kidd?
With Tarkenton, none of his three losses in the big game were even close, and maybe that's the reason why he later ended up endorsing self-help guru Anthony Robbins after retirement.
With Elway, it was only a matter of time that he'd win one since he basically started throughout his long career. But man, some of those Super Bowl blowouts his Broncos suffered were BAD, like 42-10 to the Redskins in which Washington scored all of its points after Denver had taken a 10-0 lead. Remember how Joe Montana and the Niners ripped Denver 55-10? But hey, how many QBs can say they started SIX Super Bowls like Elway did? |

The Giants - Bills game (Super Bowl XXV) is one of the most memorable for the following reasons: It took place during the first Gulf War and security measures were extreme (I was there at Tampa Stadium, and they were checking all the lots for car bombs...) Whitney Houston sang her rousing version of "Star Spangled Banner" (possibly aided by high quality cocaine coming in from the Port of Tampa...) It featured a match-up of the league's best offense (Bills) against the best defense (Giants) and - unlike most Super Bowls - it more than lived up to the pre-game hype and turned out to be a great game. The Giants won with back-up quarterback Jeff Hostetler (Kicker Scott Norwood was probably lucky that angry Bills fans had been screened for weapons after missing that last second field goal...)

I think that this year's match-up of Bears and Colts has the potential to be a great game also (but it'll be hard to top Super Bowl XXV - which had that patriotic ferver angle going for it as well as the competitive game...) |

You mean Scott Norwood. And it was no gimme at 47 yards. |

In my defense, I always have a couple of beers if I am watching a game (even here in Korea). |
