I want to buy some stock in Toyota; my wife is Korean. Any advice on the best way to do this? Where to buy? Thanks.

toyota? its listed in japan, and also the US, under the ticker symbol TM.

also why do you say 'my wife is korean'? you know toyota isn't korean, right?

Sorry, should have clarified more, I'm wondering about the implications of buying stock as a resident of Korea, in terms of where do I buy it, who can buy it, etc. I've never bought stock while living in Korea, and don't know the technicalities of it. Wondering if my wife can buy stock of Toyota in Korea, primarily, and where we would do so.

Hope that clarifies a bit.

At any securities company in Korea, get your wife to do a search and you'll find plenty of companies. Like the other poster said you can buy it on the NYSE, might save you some fees if you purchase it through an online discount broker than in Korea, I believe the fees are a little to a lot higher in Korea.

My first year in Korea I read in the Korea Herald that the Housing and Commercial Bank was the "best managed bank in Korea". I thought it would be fun so I bough 1.5 million won of shares. The shares were about 15,000 won a share.

A couple years later HCB merged with Kookmin bank and I checked the price it was 22,500 a share. Hmm! Then in due course I got my 1000 Kookmin shares and they were worth about 26,500 shares. Thing were looking good.

About three weeks ago I checked and the Kookmin Shares were worth 73000 Won. My 1500.00 has become 7,300 dollars in a little over 6 years.

It is the only time I have ever bought stocks. If my uni renews me for another two years I think I'll sell them and go pay cash for a new Matiz.
