Are you like me, a person who dreads having dinner when Koreans bring you into one of those restaurants whrere you have to eat dinner sitting on the floor?

Why do Koreans like these places so much? I'd say that 70% of Korean restaurants are chairless. Anyway...

I don't mind it, but I do have poor circulation in my legs, and they're constantly falling asleep unless I shift around a lot. All of my Korean friends have noticed without me saying anything, and we always go the restaurants that have both the floor seating and seating with chairs, and they always let me make the final decision where to sit.

I like the floor seating in theory, and it IS cozy...but my legs can only take it for so long.

I refuse to go any place where you have to sit on the hard floor. It completely cuts my circulation to my legs and I end up getting super leg cramps and major indigestion.

As Koreans are no longer cave-dwelling or dirt poor peasants, it is time to get with the fucking program and buy some fucking chairs. It is one area where even the mainland Chinese are ahead of Koreans.

I sit on the floor in my own villa/apartu. Why would a restaurant be a problem? Why is the chair a symbol of an advanced stage of development? I'd put chairs pretty far down the list of things needed for a developed country.

Suck it up, it's not that bad after 15 mins. Just don't sit on your own legs is all.

Heck...most restaurants seem to offer a choice of chairs or floor sitting.

I do not mind sitting on the floor at a restaurant. A couple of cushions and its all good. I can see why some people would dislike it however as it can be unconfortable for some.

Now, lets not turn this into a bash the country for not being "developed" enough to have chairs... Rolling Eyes

Heck, you go to a Japanese restautrant back home and people will pay to sit on the Tatami (which is like sitting on the floor).... Very Happy

Basic decision: if you dislike sitting on the floor, go to another restaurant. It is not like there are too few restaurants here! If you like the food at a restaurant but it offers not chairs, well choose between confort (if sitting on the floor bugs you) and your desire to eat there.

Some cultures (mostly Asian) are basically "floor cultures"... The good thing is that filthy shoes are not allowed and the floors are much cleaner than "chair cultures" that allow all the filth from the streets to be brought in via shoes.

Of course, no one is expected to sit on the hard floor without at least a pillow or mat of some sort. People with leg problems can use two or three mats... And, Korean (and other Asian) restaurants that get a lot of western customers (or have become westernized...) usually have chairs anyway...
