I cant go to both. So who should I choose? Ive seen Cox play before twice already (altho only 1 hr sets each time would like to see these epic sets that Ive heard so much about). But I like the whole idea of this three deck business with Derrick Carter.

So which should it be people?

carter is more funky house, and cox is more tech house..

also Carter doesnt play 3 decks all the time..
also he wanst the first to do three decks! many djs have done the 3 decks
paul oakenfold for one was known for three decks way back in the late 80's early 90's..

depends on what you want to hear really..
im sure both will play only 3 -4 hours as thats what they are paid for..

Derrick Carter attacked me at Myungwolgwon once. I dunno why he did it but it certainly left an impression.

Playing on three turntables is no big deal -- even your typical bedroom DJ could do it. Most people are oblivious to what's going on anyway, and I guess seeing a DJ use three of them makes it cooler.

Anyway, Carter and Cox are different -- I think if you prefer soul, some funk, and really feel like grooving, go to the Derrick Carter event... I once saw him at Club Giant in Hollywood and I was just watching him the whole time -- I was amazed at how good he really was... His ability to mix two records in at precisely the right moment where you end up thinking, "Wow, I wonder what that song is".

Cox on the other hand --- he won DJ of the year I think, back in like '99 or 2000 -- but I think he's overrated. All the British DJ's are overrated (eg. Judge Jules!). Also, Cox's style is a little too 'hard' and 'soul-less' to me. It's too mechanical, digital, or something like that. It's like having sex with a robot... whereas with Derrick Carter, it's like having sex with a hot and passionate latina.

If you're into classical pianists... think of it as:

Derrick Carter = Vladimir Horowitz

Carl Cox = Arthur Rubinstein

My issue here is not with the Judge Jules comment (I am not a fan), but the fact that you would lump all British DJ's in together with him. You can't be very clued-up about the British club scene and the diversity contained therein.

carter plays way better music imo

cox would cater for a younger less musically literate crowd, i haven;t heard carter for some time but i also suspect he's compromised his'sound to some degree to stay afloat on the int dj circuit

3 decks is not important unless your thing is standing by the booth and watching the dj all night

Please can we have the details for these gigs.... I want to go to Carter.
You will probably find that both Dj's mainly use CD's so there wont be much of a show with the 3 decks "thing". Plus its all about the music, and not too much time is spent looking at the DJ mixing if your having a good time and enjoyinhg the music.

Im with tiger fancini on this one. If you think all Uk DJ's are like The Judge, then it does show a lack of knowledge.

Ive seen Carter play several times in the UK and he always goes down well. His style is more bumpty bumpty, Cox is a bit harder. But they are both entertainers and you will have a good time whoever you see. But see Carter if you havnt already....

Wanted to bump this to see if we can get details on when and where these lads might be playing, or if this is a random poll like "Coke or Pepsi?".
I dig both..which one's better? Depends on my mood I reckon.
How 'bout letting us all know the gig info, I'll go to both, and let you all know.
