Just wondering if theres any westerners here in Korea that DJ'd in their home country. And have brought their records over here to Korea! And if you have had any gigs. What kinda music do you play??

Im planning a 2nd year in Korea, but notice a distinct lack of venues that play house music (apart from Seoul) Im wanting to bring my records over with me and maybe my decks?

Its seems to be the one thing I really miss when Im here! (music)

Any advice/anyone done it?
Hard or easy to get a gig?

I've played a few sets... but I play mainly hip hop, R&B...

I DJd in my home city of Manchester between 17 - 20 but ended up cutting it out of my repertoire since it boiled down to maintaining the production that I was also doing or the DJing since my law degree required too much time...

I got my hook ups through Korean friends... one DJ had to leave a spot over in Sincheon / Hongdae for a month so I was able to roll up in... also played a number of private parties...

As for bringing decks over... honestly, unless they're CDJs, it's pointless... most club set ups here revolve around CDJs and a laptop and the cost you're looking at to ship your vinyl just wouldn't be worth it... the best thing to do would be to bring your CDJ ability over here... make sure you know your way around somethin like Ableton Live on a laptop and have all your music MP3d so that when you need to run CDs off, you can do... if you land yourself a residency and really want to ship your vinyl over then by all means, do it then... it just seems a little premature to ship it over on what would initially be a hobby basis...

I spn records in Korea before. It was a pain in the ass to get them to Seoul. I played a few clubs, got paid well in poon, and that was that!

Well I guess technically I'm a DJ, although the club I'm at doesn't have a lot of good equipment, and I don't play electronic stuff.

does anyone know how much house music is really played here in korea, in seoul, and if the scene is responsive to house music, not just trance and strictly progressive house, which I've heard is more receptive here.
I've just returned to korea since i left at 4 years old, I'm a dj from montreal quebec, @ stereo-nightclub, and while i'm here would like to see about playing and seeing if they'd like NY influenced vocal tribal house music with electro/prog influence also.
I've also noticed they are responsive to big DJ names, however understanding this culture being korean myself(by nationality, hardly a korean by nature) I am curious if the scene enjoys good quality house music.
any tips? HelP!?
