Hello, my hawgron is going to allow my coworkers and I to choose new books for the B1 and B2 levels.

These are six months courses each and we only need the books on Monday and Wednesday (we write on Tuesday, Play games on Thursday and test on Friday). However, the books provide the topics for conversations, writing, games and tests. Our students spend an equal ammount of time studying grammar with the Korea teachers so we are looking for speaking and listening based books. Currently we are using Smile (smell).

Are B1 students are basic: greetings, physical descriptions, can and cant do, likes, family, present tense, infinitives and present continious.

Are B2 students can write, but not speak, fairly well for beginners. I recently begun teaching B2 but I know they are studying past tense, places like the beach, mountains, but nothing much more detailed than B1 students.

Does anybody know of any great books out there?

Thanks in advance,

Is it a bad indication that I got more responses about creatine than ESL books on an ESL website?

I like the Backpack series and the English Time series. I'd set aside a few hours one day to go to a bookstore and browse through the different titles out there.

I am going tommorow with my coworkers; however, if I have a few names first then I can speed things up.

My school wants to use English Time but one book for six months for two days a week comes out to about a page a day. We have used Smile and Beeline.

Thanks for the post.

English Time has a workbook, too. If you're worried about the textbook not being enough to fill the time, get the workbook to supplement.

Backpack blows.

How Fun is a pretty good, Korean made book. Lots of games and activities, good layout, plenty of speaking and reading practice. Levels increase gradually, my students tended to dig and learn from it (til my dang wonjangoverlord changed to YBM Sky High Shyte). Korean teachers can download the teachers guides (in Korean) for free from the How Fun website too... my wife praised it for that reason.

Don't get the How Fun phonics books - they blow.

There is also a Korean made Let's Go book. Not to be mistaken for the oxford version. It basically follows the grammer points of the elementary school books, but is much more fun, engaging and speaking-practice focused.

Guess it depends on the age. For younger learner the English Zone isn't bad. Simple with lots of coloring and fun stuff. Backpack I don't like. And I heve heard good things about Let's Go.

Magic Time 1 & 2 are also great books for younger beginners (Kindy, Grades 1&2). Same publisher and similar format to English Time but a bit more fun for younger students.
