Anyone else new and going with Footprints?
Have you, like me, not received housing info yet? Ben says he doesn't have the details yet..but I know some other SMOE teachers have thier info...
Maybe we all need to lay the pressure on. |

Have you signed a contract, submitted your HARD-COPY documents and started the visa process?
If yes, and you are with SMOE, then don't worry. They WILL take care of you. They are just working on Korean time. You're not here yet so they aren't worried yet.
If you haven't got your visa confirmation number, then you are putting the cart before the horse. Relax.

Oh, I have it all..visa, school, contract, etc....everything except the housing info...
I arrive on the 24th!
I've gotten somewhat used to last minute stuff already, but I know other SMOE teachers have their housing info...
Ultimately it doesn't REALLY matter. I know they have a place for me. I would just like to be able to give my friends and family an address before I go. I'd sort of like to know now what kind of commute I will have. I'd like to know what area I'm living in, so I can start to dream about what there is to do there.... |

24th?? That's a week away .... LOTS of time to find and furnish an apartment ... and your boss/FT-sitter (principal, VP, co-teacher) may still be on his/her vacation...
Ya, it would be nice to know...
More to the point is "Will there be someone to meet you at the airport?" Stranger in a strange land has a whole new meaning for a newbie when they get off the plane here.
The best mailing address to use is usually your school and NOT your apartment anyway. There is always someone at the school to accept mail and packages and you will be sure to get them.
Still... relax... take 3 deep breaths and find/pack your favorite spices / packaged foods, get a load of stickers from your home state (worth their weight in gold) and don't forget your 10 sticks of deoderant.
Go out and enjoy your last week at home... it will be a LONG year before you see it again. |

| Don't expect your apartment until after orientation week, around August 31st. You may get your address while there, but you will be in Suwon until the 31st. |

| I wanted to let anyone that is applying for a job with the S.M.O.E. in February, 2007 know that if you apply with both Footprints and the other recruiter that has been commissioned to supply teachers to the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education this spring, and the S.M.O.E. receives your application from both of us, your application will be rejected by the S.M.O.E. This February the S.M.O.E. is offering 4 weeks paid vacation instead of the two they offered last fall. Positions are filling very quickly. |

Ben,
This seems totally inappropriate to be posting, also given your "partiality".
I am not saying you are wrong. I will copy and send to SMOE and call this morning and get it from the horse's mouth myself.
I don't believe any professional organization, government or otherwise, would act in this manner. Meaning, reject a candidate based on WHO they applied through.
I'll post back here this afternoon. In any event thanks for bringing this to our attention.

PS> the other recruiter Ben alluded to, is Korea Connections. In all fairness, he should have named them. www.koreaconnections.net |

I'm suspicious of this.......I think he is not mentioning that you get 4 weeks, if you renew. Which you probably also have included in your contract Austin. Also, you don't get 2 weeks vacation in the standard contract -- you get 14 days which is 3 weeks less a day.
Let's keep things accurate but I'll check on the 4 weeks thingee too.

A couple of things. First - about the vacation time - new teachers arriving at the end of February 07, to start work in March receive 21 working days vacation, plus weekends and national holidays. Vacation can be taken by teachers when school is not in session, with notice given to your supervisor. Unfortunately teachers that signed contracts in August 06 or earlier receive the amount of vacation stipulated in your contract, during the time period covered in your contract - so the new vacation time does not apply to you for the upcoming semester, unfortunately.
With regards to the rejection of candidates received from multiple sources - it is true. Basically the S.M.O.E. doesn't want the hassle of figuring out which company should get credit for presenting an applicant, so they decide | |
