do you say spē'shēz, or spē'-sēz ? (i didn't use the IPA because i couldn't get it to show up right on daves) i say spē'sēz but i just heard my friend's english tape and they said spē'shēz. both are OK according to the dictionary.

I say both, I never know which one one is going to come out. Every day is an adventure when discussing species!

I'm with with the many armed fellow above on the topic of H.

If you're British you pronounce it correctly; if you're American, you pronounce it with a funny accent.

I say "spee-seez."
I majored in biology and heard it both ways often.

EDIT: Just remembered an elderly prof, likely pushing retirement, saying,
"spoy-sheez." Yes, I'm Texan.

"spee-seas" is correct. As in, 'specific".

Similarly, "race-ism" is correct, although many pronounce it "ray-shism".
