Does anyone have any modeling hook-ups in Korea? If so, please post.
Thanks...

I do some work for a modelling agency, which I thought was really cool when it started, but most of them seem so disorganized; I met other models on jobs who say the same thing about their agencies, Koreans and foreigners. Most of it is filming work. They call you like two hours before a job and tell you to get somewhere and are really pissy if you cant make it ("But I have a class!" "Can you cancel?"). It pays fairly well, like 600 - 800,000 won per day, but it really inteferes with your schedule with the short notice demands of the agency. I dont want to post the email address here, so PM me if you want the email address of a really disorganized agency!

Well I take it that's a sneer, one which you are welcome to make. But isn't this a board where people write of their experiences and hook others up? I got a PM from a well known poster here who is going to contact the same agent, happy to help others out but feel it would be rude to post agent's e-mail address on a board like this with a lot of traffic. But hell, why do I need to justify myself here? This is a bloody anonymous message board! Nobody knows who I am!

Why the sneer? Cuz modeling isnt a job. Much like being a pro-sports player.

But I do wish I could get money for being pretty. Sieze all the dough you can while you're in Korea, cuz that's all you'll get out of this place.

Too bad Princess isnt around to tell us about the life of being an EFL teacher by day and a supermodel by night.

You don't have to be pretty to be a model. Just look right for the part.

You'd be surprised at what people could get hired to do jobs here if they only had their "name in the pile."

Yes I'd love to hear it.

I (obviously a supermodel) did work for awhile. I'm still waiting to get paid, although I must say I met interesting Eastern European "models."

Oddly or perhaps not I was a big hit, they had me play elderly doctor types in Television dramas. It is a lot like teaching really small kids. If you are completely out of it (which I surely am) if you can suspend belief in "reality" to say pretend to swim across the floor with four year olds? No problem. You can be Dr. Mengele in a flash!

Honestly if you don't panic (which most people do) because of all the cameras, lights mirophones etc. and try not to "act" it can be an interesting experience.

Anyway make sure you get paid. "Home dramas" require continuity over time. One way to make sure the beloved Dr. Mengele makes it back next week ad infinitum is to have momentary short falls in cash.

It is also embarressing as hell when people start to recognize you. Believe me the kids will tune into the show just to see you.

Try it. You don't even have to be cute or good looking. Really beyond saying being cute (you'll get sick of that quickly) all that is really required is not freezing up. Most people do, a simple stroll down the sidewalk turns into Mechano the mechanical man staring into the camera with an idiot grin as he finds stardom on KBS. This, a person who is an extra who is is suppossed to be casually strolling down the sidewalk.

If you are any good at it, there is real money in it, and you'll be shocked at how they treat you. If you are any good. The problem is that anybody who is any good is probably pretty close to preventive detention. Look at Marylin Monroe. What sort of an Oakie thinks the president of the U.S. is going to divorce his wife and marry her? I mean look at me! Please do!

Oh incidently. Have you bought a roll of 35mm film recently? Those three cameras are running a roll every second. Unless you have a real cute Pepsident smile like the girl on the Naver ads (note no spoken lines) or are totally insane as I may very well be, don't take it seriously. They start getting tired and testy as thousands of dollars of film are burnt up. I don't care, which might be the key to it really. I hope you won't take it personally as the director shouts cut yet again because of mechano man in the background.

Well I am a Master of the Universe, I think I'd better lean back and watch Bonfire of the Vanities yet again.

Hey pick up a dead phone with sixty people around you and thousands of dollars pouring through the cameras and pretend to talk to your pretend wife. Tom Hanks can pull it off.

One last tip don't upstage the Korean stars, they rarely actually speak lines. They generally pout, cry, throw tantrums , sort of slapstick in reverse.

Well I have to prepare my "Swamp Girl' pitch for the director of Pulp Fiction. I was thinking samurai swords instead of bullwhips, but will it play in Times Square, much less the Yoqwon late at night?

Good luck, you'll probably meet some interesting Rumanian girls.

Sorry took me so long to reply.

It was my second year in Korea. I was standing outside of my apartment building...and this woman approached me to ask if I'd ever done any modeling. Of course not. She had an office in a building (near Kagnam) so I went over and chatted with her. They called me the following saturday for an all day shoot with a Canadian model (My god she was hot) they replaced her 1/2 way through the morning with a better one though...and they finally used me in the end. This was a commercial that was going out to other Asian nations and it was something about the discovery of love through technology. I was walking around browsing the technology for sale in a building and there on the screen I am supposed to see her and fall in love. Later I get to meet her and look deep into her eyes.

Sadly, there was no kissing scene. Christ that sucked.

I think I made about 350 bucks for the day.

Well I did actually appreciate Saharzie's post there, because I felt Rawiri's sneer was rather unwarranted, I was only imparting information requested.

Right, I've now given the Agency's contact name and e-mail out to a lot of people, and since I'm not keen to give my real name to anyone, the agent's going to be confused as to where all these foreigners are coming from, so I've just written to four more and I'm afraid I'm not replying to any more, as I've likely done myself out of really fun and well-paid work Crying or Very sad

Good luck to all those who PM'ed me.
