| I hate the whole Manning family. Especially after that garbage Archie and Eli pulled with San Diego on draft day. I just love watching those two lose. Go Bears! |

i hate the bears... they are damn lucky Hasselbeck has a broken finger, otherwise they would be making vacation plans. (i know the Hawks got lucky cause Romo has butter fingers, but with all the carp The Hawks put up with this year, since pretty much every single offensive starter missed significan time, they deserved a break)
but then Manning has beaten me a few times in the playoffs in fantasy football, so is it possible that they both lose? god, why couldnt one of NO or NE win... |

I've never really liked either team, but I've never really hated them either. I grew up a New York Giants fan, and - as a 9 year old - I watched the Colts (then in Baltimore) beat them in the 1958 NFL championship game...
When I lived in Florida, including Miami, for many years I was a Dolphins fan, and I saw the big game at the Orange Bowl in 1985 when Dan Marino put on a spectacular aerial display, dashing the Bears' hopes of a perfect season (only achieved by the '72 Dolphins...) The Bears did go on to win the Super Bowl that year though (beating the Patriots...)
I think that either team could win this year, and I look for a high scoring game - even though both defenses are very good. I think that both quarterbacks will throw multiple TD passes. Manning is bigger, more experienced, and maybe a little more talented, but Grossman is the streaky kind of passer who can get hot and be very effective (especially in south Florida...)
Logically, I'd give the nod to the Colts because of more team balence, I think, but I'm not that convinced (and I expect a fairly close game...) |

It'll be tough for the Bears to win without one of their running backs (maybe Midland, TX native Cedric Benson?) having a 200 yard game. They MUST keep Indy's offense off the field, and Rex Grossman just can't control a game that well.
Who would I PREFER to see win it all? The Bears (I LOVE tough defenses), but the Colts were 12-4 in the TOUGH AFC, and they beat the Ravens IN Baltimore and New England. They just have too many weapons.
Oh, and I don't like Peyton Manning (can't stand his alma mater). |

Manning a little more talented? Your comparing one of the greatest QBs of all time(most ppl would agree with this) to Grossman. Rex can throw a good deep ball but is also inaccurate, forces throws and is hesitant under pressure. Not a good comparison at this point of their careers and frankly I would be staggered if Rex is ever as good as Manning. I think that Chicago will keep it close due to great field positiom(great special teams vs bad ST) and run game. I expect the Colts to win but definitly think the Bears will cover. I hope the Colts win just so I never hav to read another article about how Manning is a choker and can't win the big one. I don't want him to be in Marino's place where idiots think he is incomplete cos he never won a superbowl. |

I agree that Manning is a lot more accomplished, is more steadily focused mentally, and has a physical (especially height) advantage, but Grossman isn't that far behind in talent if you compare what each did their first complete year in the pros. Actually the following chart was made at midseason and extrapolates what Grossman did at the half-way point to give a full season total (OK, I know it's kinda bogus, but I'm too tired to search for better stats right now...) It does indicate what could happen over a short stretch...
Grossman: 296/520 - 3698 yards - 56.9% - 28 TD - 20 - INT - 81.1 Rating
P. Manning: 326/575 - 3739 yards - 56.7% - 26 TD - 28 INT - 71.2 Rating
McNabb: 330/569 - 3365 yards - 58.0% - 21 TD - 13 INT -77.8 Rating
Vick: 231/421 - 2936 yards - 54.9% - 16 TD - 8 INT - 81.6 Rating
Brady: 264/413 - 2843 yards - 63.9% - 18 TD - 12 INT - 86.5 Rating
Favre: 302/471 - 3227 yards - 64.1% - 18 TD - 13 INT - 85.3 Rating

i love the bears. they are my childhood team. its also important to note that it will not be snowing in miami, and the crowd support will be lukewarm and mixed.
peyton is playing like a man who will not be denied this time...

Comparing Quarterbacks by their first year isnt as very good idea. Also as Grossman started these games over a couple of seasons he has a much easier learning curve. Also that he started for a better team(Colts were'nt good in Manning's early years)etc etc. Grossman had some fantastic games this year and some downright terrible games. His completion percentage is very low this year(54.6%) and Yards per attempt also(6.65). I consider those two to be the most important statistics. If we consider this to be Rex's second year(to adjust for his 4 yr learning curve) we can compare it to Manning's second year. (62% completion) and (7.76 Yds Pr. Att.).
Personally I would consider Grossman so far away from Manning as for the comparison to be laughable. Manning was is a shoe-in hall of famer, a QB with great mechanics, arm and brain. Grossman is a slinger, is compensated for by a conservative game plan, inaccurate)
Vince Young or Matt Leinart(my pick)have a much higher chance of emulating Manning than Grossman does. |

| I've been a Bears fan for a lot of years...I even jumped on the Rashaan Salaam bandwagon for a brief period. Got to believe that its still not their year. Damn Peyton Manning........... |

| The problem being that Grossman is so hit or miss, that on a good day he can compete with Manning (and let the running game win it for him) or on a bad day he'll make it look like the Raiders are playing. |

ok whoever said the colts have a great defense has obviously missed out on alot this season.
There bears will keep it on the ground and out of Rex's hands for as long as possible and hope for Peyton to cough it up. (colts have the league's worst run defense and the bears have the best D)
Born in the Chi ( but I'm FSU alumni, so honestly I'd love to see Grossman and Hestor fail but Devin Hestor is more ill than reggie bush when it comes to punt returns, the more he gets the ball, the higher the score will be) |
