Hey guys, someone I know is getting yee-old hagwon-screw job from her boss and she may need a good cheap place to stay this February while she gets back on her feet.

She's in Seoul right now. I'm not sure how good goshiwons are for unaccompanied women, but if anyone has any leads on hostels or the like please give some advice. I gave her the URL of this thread, so she'll be reading it later.

Thanks.

I stayed at Seoul Backpackers a few times two and three years ago. It was pretty cheap, clean, and it was a good, central place to meet people. They had shared rooms and individual rooms.

I don't know how much your friend wants to pay, but I also stayed at Gwanhunjang yeogwan in Insadong. It was 35,000 a night, but I asked the guy how much for the month and we worked out a much cheaper rate - 600,000. Had a TV, fridge, water cooler, groovy red mood lights, nice big bathroom, air conditioning, and it was a 100 meter shortcut from Anguk Station.

If money's really a factor and your friend doesn't want to stay in a hostel, why not a boarding house (hasukjip)? I've never stayed in one, and I'm sure that hasukjip ajummas would rather rent their rooms for longer terms than just a month, but if the room is empty...? There are hundreds of these hasukjips all around university campuses and they're cheap (350-500 thousand or so) and include food. These places are usually two to four stories high, and the floors are usually segregated by sex. As a woman, your friend might feel more comfortable in a "women only" environment, since shared bathrooms are common.

I just dug up some womens-only goshiwons in the other thread.
