It's official. From next semester, I will no longer be part of the ESL teaching community in Korea or elsewhere. I've run the gammit in this country, from lowly hakwon on up. I earned degrees, paid my dues and worked up from small, oddball universities all the way up through to the best one in Korea. Have to admit, it was good to me. Got me to the country, got me fluent in the language, paid for my Master's, and employed me through the Ph.D. dissertation stage. I took the good with the bad, put up with worst, and enjoyed the best. I met friends that I'll hopefully have for life.
So to all, I bid you a kind farewell. May you keep fighting the good fight. May you not have term limits imposed upon you. May you be granted annual pay increases. May your housing be decent or your allowance be more than it was in 1990. May your bosses be sane, and your co-workers saner. May you have a choice in what you teach and how you teach it. May your vacations be long and your prep time be short. I'll still be in Korea, but doing other things. We're here for the long haul.
It's been great bouncing ideas off of the regulars here, and hearing from both old and new alike. I was a latecomer to Dave's, but it was fun while it lasted none-the-less.
All the best.

You are a good poster and well informed. Hopefully it is just good-bye Korea and not this board too. |

I'm sure your inability to spell or use a dictionary had nothing to do with your lack of success. It's "gamut". Damn, why can't any of these people on this board spell???
All hail the great and glorious Spelling Nazi Party of Dave's Evil Sycophant Cafe!!!! Huzzah! |

My plan is to not be like Otis, still trying to settle scores he should have left behind him in Korea. When I finally depart these shores, I'm done with Dave's ESL Cafe.
Best of luck. |

Best of luck with your future plans. I assume you've gotten a job offer somewhere in academia. Any clues about where? |

The real question is why you wasted good hard earned cash to get a graduate degree!!! |

I don't care that they can't spell. But why can't they read?
And congratulations and good luck PRagic. |

JZER:
Grad degree = double the pay for half the hours + long-term job security. Nough said.
I strongly enourage all out there to continually upgrade your qualifications. It really does pay off. |
