for once, im not antagonizing you. Im not very familiar with this whole Big Brother debacle. So were the indians protesting in India or were they British and in the UK? If they're from India then, yeah I agree, its quite ironic for them to be so appalled at some dope's comments.
If the bulk of the protests occured in UK however, I would just assume that those people are English, and the 'house' they have to clean up is not India...but England, they're country.
I was also wondering if it is different in England. Are Indian and Pak nationals or other foreigners considered British, like immigrants in the US are considered American or is there a greater divide? That's why I found your "clean up your own house" comment interesting, especially coming from you...(if most of the Indians protesting were British nationals.) |
Well, if you go back to my first post it will indicate who I'm talking about

However, I can not answer your question about where the bulk of the protests occurred, though - I have not followed it enough to know. Certainly there will have been protests among British Indians.
Technically they are considered British although there will always be those who consider England only to be for Anglo-Saxons (or those who look like Anglo-Saxons). I've always considered them British, because I think it is your experiences and environment that make you who you are, not your blood and ancestry; many people I know have the same view.
But I haven't lived in Britain since before 911. So views may have changed i.e. become more us and them. I remember meeting young muslims (Britains of Kazahkstani or Pakistani origin) who felt very English and very proud of being English. I wonder if they still feel this way, after the backlash against their communities? I hope they don't feel alienated by the new political climate.

What exactly do you mean Junior?
I believe those Israelis who have immigrated from other lands (particularly Europe or America) and white South Africans decended from Europeans should learn to live peacefully in the area they (or their ancestors) have decided to settle in. It seems fair to me that it is the newcomers who ought to compromise and make the effort to live harmoniously with the native inhabitants, and not vice-versa. For the most part, South Africans have achieved that, though it took them a few hundred years. Perhaps when Israeli politicians give up their designs on a greater Israel, and stop trying to steal land and resources from the unfortunate inhabitants of the West Bank, they might achieve that too. |

| Jesus, that was painful. A total wallow in the utter dregs of humanity. And people manage to sit through multiple hours of this on Big Brother? |

My mummy has never been to America. I think my daddy visited America once in the mid eighties. By that time it was a serious offence to kill native Americans, so he was denied that little pleasure. |

You don't have to watch any of that ridiculous slurred sobbing to know the poms are pretty small minded and dumb nowadays. even the millionaires.
You could say, the west has deliberately dumbed down their populations over the past 50 years.
i'd say koreans are more intelligent and better behaved on average than english folks. less racist, too. I never thought i'd say it, but it is so.
Koreans will make a big effort to welcome you and they will always make sure you are catered for with meals or whatever.
i simply could not imagine the english having such manners if a korean or indian arrived from out of nowhere, not speaking English, to work alongside them. The foreigner would be shunned, gossiped about behind their backs, and told to "speak bruddy inglish " etc etc.
What occurred in big brother was indeed a microcosm of the attitudes prevalent in britain. 50 years back and when they had the empire they more more knowledgable and open-minded about the globe. Not anymore- although the arrogance remains. |

Seeking to control a person's / society's language clearly constitutes political "correctness" of the basest kind.

Now, now my little colonial we'll have none of that. A little respect to those millionaires for making all that money yet being so dumb. I know Koreans don't shun, gossip or tell people to hangul mal, but that's why they'll never have an empire. Of course Britons will never welcome Koreans or Indians with meals or whatever, even if said Briton is from Indian or Korean stock. They might come to our houses take of their shoes and sit on the floor! Well I never! And what a disgrace that London only has 200 spoken languages. And may our 1950's open-minded arrogance remain for ever more.
Good day sir!

| These racist incidents on BB seemed very minor and trivial to me. Creating this huge race fuss over something so small will just irritate and probably make race relations worse. It's all so false....let's see who can pretend to be the most appalled and offended. Pathetic media nitpicking. |

Actually, I rather agree. There's far more pressing things in the world than Jade Goody and co's little jibes about poppodoms. I also feel very sorry for Jade, as I think her punishment far outweighs her crime...and she is going to end up pretty f***ed up over this. |

Because of the excessive punishment and media circus, sympathy with 'racist' Jade will be very common whilst this ludicrously false and exaggerated expression of anti-racism will be viewed with scorn - three steps back for race relations if you ask me.
I can't tell you how much I hate the British media. Where's a major international act of terrorism when you need one?? |
