I think that all the leading Democratic contenders either have too many negatives or are political lightweights with virtually no chance of getting the nomination (eg: Dennis Kucinich...) Welterweight John Edwards might emerge as a less risky alternative to Clinton or Obama - especially if Gore doesn't get into it.

Since all the heavyweight contenders have strong negatives, and since most of the country is sick and tired of having Presidents with Southern accents, and since the Republicans are reeling and will probably nominate semi-geezer, John McCain, I'd like to see the Dems draft their eldest statesman (except for Sen. Byrd...) Ted Kennedy.

So what if Republican media henchmen will dredge up Chappaquidick ghosts - I wouldn't mind hearing "Bridge over Troubled Water" playing in the background of their attack commercials...All the other Kennedy family scandals are old news (and so what what if he got caught cheating once at Harvard - contender Joe Biden got caught plagiarizing speeches ...?)

He can stage a comeback like George Foreman and become a popular champ in his old age with a new image make-over (including cosmetic surgery to his nose...)

I used to like John McCain but his stands though admirable in some cases seemed extreme to me. If Colin Powell would run, I would think he would be a good GOP candidate. When it comes to the democrats, Obama somehow seems like an appealing candidate not so much part of the mainstream. Obama is articulate, educated, from mixed heritage, and he seems to connect with people. I would like to hear more from him. He seems to be a person who would actually reach out to your average American. I don't feel this administration did anything but the opposite because it polarized the country and it almost seemed to be using some segments of the country against each other in a divide and conquer scheme and doing tht to your own people is bad. I think someone who can really reach out to people would be good. I am not sure Hillary can do that, but she is very qualified for sure.
