most Microsoft published games are also region-free such as Gears of War.

A Korean Gears of War disc will play on a US system? I heard that the opposite was true, but I haven't seen anyone verify that the Korean disc will work on a US system yet. The list just has a question mark. |
At play asia they check the each disk from each region on all of the different systems (Japan, asia, ect) and then mark them down if they work on specific systems. The list is a nice reference. I think someone already posted the link |

| Right, but corroonb said that Gears was region-free, and the list has a question mark about the Japanese region version working on a US system. I was just wondering if anyone had actually bought a copy of Gears here and used it successfully on a US system. |

Check the list again. That version is not released yet. It will be tomorrow so they probably haven't been able to test it. But the PAL and NTSC-U/C versions are both region free so I would assume the Japanese one would be too. But if you can order the US version from Play-Asia for less than the Japanese version, why bother with the Japanese version when the US one is confirmed region free?

This list claims the NTSC Asia Gears of War is region free:

Search around and you'll hear conflicting evidence apparently the Japan region is separate from the rest of Asia even though its all called NTSC-J. Apparently the Asia version available in Korea should be region free but the Japanese version out tomorrow might not be. |

Play-asia is now selling PS3s for the suggested retail price (in US dollars, which gives us in Korea an 'exchange rate discount'), and ships to Korea very reasonably. Shipping for my extra controller and HDMI cable were free, and got here in a week.
Insured 3-5 day shipping is 50,000 won, so the listed grand total is about 518,000 won. |
