Hello everyone!
My boyfriend, our friend and I all are planning on teaching in South Korea in June. We want to live together or very near each other (I def want to live with my bf).... We don't really care about working together... although that would not be bad either. Has anyone ever applied through recruiters with friends? Will it take us longer to find jobs? Is it ok for men and women to live together if not married in Korean culture? Thanks!

It is find for foreigners who are not married to live together and often you can find schools who will hire both of you and give you a 2 room apartment instead of the usual 1-room box.
Alternatively you can find 2 schools, one of you gets the bachelor suite and the other simply takes the housing allowance.
No problem either way. |

It will restrict your choices of jobs somewhat, as you'll probably need to work at the same place in order to get them to give you an apartment that's big enough for two. I managed to do it, however.
The other possibility is to get jobs that just give you a housing allowance and/or key money, and just find your own apartment.

You could probably find a boss who's willing to do this for you if he's hiring both of you, as he'd save money on housing for two teachers. That doesn't mean that Korean society finds it acceptable to live with members of the opposite sex before marriage. You probably should not care, but there could be some gossip. |

I originally came here with a friend. We told our recruiter that we wanted to either work/live together or at least near each other. The recruiter got us a job at the same place and we housed together. The hagwon itself wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great either.
Just make sure to check the hagwon out thoroughly before accepting an offer... |
