| Over the last few days have started having problems playing sound or audio files on my laptop. It affects things ive down loaded from limewire (not all porn!) and to things that are streamed frrom the net or, for example tv shows or songs on myspace profiles...know this is a long shot but has anyone experience difficulties like this? have done a full scan for a virus and found nothing, im not exactly computer savvy so appologies if its something simple, any thoughts greatly appriciated! |

try hooking up external speakers to your laptop - if they work, your onboard speakers are probably shot.
It's possible that your codecs have become corrupted. Go to http://www.free-codecs.com/K_Lite_Codec_Pack_download.htm and download the full version of this codec pack. Install it and see if your audio works.
Finally yYou could also try reinstalling the drivers for your sound card. |

This happened to me on my desktop a while back and it was probably a codec problem but since it was an mpeg2 codec or something I didn't know how to replace it. It definitely sounds like a codec problem though. I wouldn't download K-Lite as it contains far too many useless codecs. The CCCP is a great codec that plays eveything using ffdshow and comes highly recommended.
Get it here.

If you don't want to try either of these, then try a system restore. If that doesn't work then a full reboot/reinstall will fix it.
Good luck, codecs are a pain in the ass. |

| If you think it may be codec download, VLC player, no codec needed plays pretty much any thing (even bin files) and it is free |

| get yourself a copy of spinrite and run it. It'll take about 3+ hours and your computer will not be usable during that time, but your drive should be fixed. |
