Hello, i'll be arriving in Seoul in 2 days and plan to get a teaching job. My favorite hobby is downloading; mostly music, but on occasion tv shows, movies, and other computer neccesities. So i know that in the U.S. if i download from a mainstream site like piratebay i may very well end up with a threatening email in my box or possibily face something worse. What's it like in Korea? Do you hear about lawsuits? Are you in fear when downloading?

It's not like the RIAA has a branch in Korea. And if they did they'd have far bigger fish to fry here than you.

Korea has certainly clamped down in a big way on people trading Korean music and movies. But in a land where hollywood DVDs are for sale on the streets of Korea before they're even in Korean theaters, Korean authorities are not really interested in spending Korean tax dollars to collect royalities for foreigners.

They are more concerned about Korean music and movie copyright infringement than about whether you have downloaded some foreign content from somewhere. Though, I'm sure the issue will come to a crux in the next couple of years and you will see more uniform monitoring happening.
