I was just issued my E-2 visa (I'm Canadian) and it says Single Entry. I've heard that it is possible to get it stamped Multiple Entry when I go to apply for my Alien Registration Card. I called the Korean Embassy here but they don't seem to know anything about it one way or the other. Will I be able to do this? It'd kind of suck not even to be able to go to Japan on holiday...

Your visa is permission to enter the country once for the purpose stated on the visa.

When you are here and apply for the ARC card, that's when you can ask for a re-entry visa, either single or multiple. BTW, you do have to ask for this, it is not automatically stamped in your passport.

After you arrive here you will have to register with immigration and get your ARC (alien registration card).

At the same time you apply for that you can also apply for your re-entry permit. This will allow you to take trips out of the country and return without cancelling your visa. (If you leave without a re-entry permit your visa will be cancelled on your departure).

The cost is 50,000 won for a multiple re-entry permit and 30,000 for a single re-entry permit.

You MUST have your ARC before you can get your re-entry permit.

You CAN apply for your ARC and re-entry permit at the same time.
