| Hey does anybody out there know if the law has changed regarding visas? I am finishing my contract at a university and changing to another one. I assumed that I would have to take a visa run, but my friend in the same situation at a different school was told that he didn't have to leave because he already had an E-2 (maybe getting a new visa and transfering an existing E-2 are different??). Also, my new school asked for 60,000 along with my documents, which I remember having to pay myself at the embassy in Japan last time, so it seems that maybe my friend was correctly informed... Anybody know? |

| 60,000 won? It's a GREAT exchange rate when converting won to yen, so tell them you'll pay it in Japan. 60,000 won converts to over 7,000 yen, right now. It costs 5,400 yen for the E-2 in Japan. |

60,000 won is Immigration's official fee for changing your place of work (ie - transferring your visa from one school to another). Actually going to Japan will cost a lot more, and I'm pretty sure the university won't pay for the trip, so I don't think that's a wise option. |
