It's been 8 months now and I'm hungry. I want to talk about food. Nice food. Food that you can't find in Korea, otherwise I would go and eat it, not talk about it.

1) Cheese and onion pasty
2) Mousakka
3) Cod and chips from the chippy
4) Roast dinner (Chicken, pork, beef...like it matters.....I would settle for dog so long as it comes with yorkies and veg).
5) Mixed cheese sandwich from Tesco

Please feel free to post your own top five missed foods, and don't forget to make a paper copy for yourself. You can look it at on the plane when you leave Korea, revise your priorities or perhaps add a few more desirable platters to the list and figure out how quickly you can get them all in your gob when the plane lands.

Thank you everybody, and have a lovely weekend.

Smile

Hmmmm
1. Once in a while I want to tear into a steak. Prefer french cuts, gigot and hampe, but a well marbled ribeye is second to none.
2. Good blue cheese.
3. Fresh herbs.
4. Home BBQ anything, but burgers and dogs with all the trimmings would be perfect.
5. Lamb for grilling or frying, mutton for stewing.

1. tortilla chips with mexican queso dip and salsa (with cilantro)
2. tacos
3. refriend pinto beans
4. yellow rice
5. actual sandwiches

I used to eat Mexican food almost every day for about two years before coming to Korea. Consequently, when I think of food, the first thing I think of is tortilla chips because that's the first thing I'd ordinarily eat first when I was hungry. Used to live in a town with only one main road, 2 miles long, with 5 Mexican restaurants. I knew a lot of the workers, and got the free tortilla chip hookup on a regular basis. Got me addicted for real.

I, too, will indulge in this masochistic writing exercise:

1. Lappert's Pina Colada ice cream shake (fresh Holstein milk mixed with 18% butterfat, fresh squeezed sugarloaf pineapple from Kaua'i, the world's least acidic, a hint of Puerto Rican Bacardi rum, and local coconut milk concocted by a retired Swiss immigrant to the islands and served at only two locations)

2. Green chili chicken enchiladas served on the big porcelain plate with a dollop of goat sour cream sauce, fresh Monterrey Jack cheese, homemade salsa, rolled into a fresh corn or flour tortilla, side order of homemade refried beans and Spanish rice at Mi Tierra, in San Antonio, Texas in the Mexican marketplace.

3. Fresh beer bratwurst from the German delis in Sheboygan, Wisconsin served with fresh sauerkraut on a onion bread bun and chased down with a local brew on tap.

4. My mom's Black Forest fresh seven-layer raspberry torte with chopped coconut, sour cream, and cake to die for.

5. My greatgrandmother's big Swedish meatballs with handshaped flour noodles and thick gravy from an old Stockholm recipe.

Dream drink: A bottle of 1971 Mosel Qualitatswein Mit Pradikat Auslese, German white dessert wine.

Q: Why is it next to impossible to find decent cake or doughnuts here?

1- Confit de canard ... Duck leg and breast baked
2- Tourtiere ... French Canadian meat pie
3- Lobster ... at a price i can afford
4- Chinese food ... real or north American variety
5- Cesar salad ... made by my dad .... who actually takes the time to mix the eggs into mayonnaise by hand, real croutons and with real anchovies that I would try to steal of the cooking block as a child ... well... into my twenties... ah hell, I'd still be sneaking and stealing them well in my thirties now.
