So anyone know the best places to go? I know there are obviously a bunch in Itaewon, but I was thinking there must be better places.

Let me know,

Thanks

I worked in a factory before going to Korea, and an elderly Black gentleman warned me against the
"custom suits" especially in Itmewon. He had a hilarious story.
Any place will tailor.

From what I've heard the price of a well made suit in itaewon runs u about 700 +. And that might be on the low end.

If your planning a trip to Thailand I would suggest picking up at least 1 taylor made suit. You can get a suit for under 100,000 won or less. When I'm in thailand I always buy at least 1 taylored suit. I didn't know what it felt like until I had one made. On my 4th now. Smile

You've been here 10 days? I've been here 10 years?
Sock? Troll? Noob? Doesn't matter. I'll spin my yarn.

'96, as if it were yesterday.. We were on an assembly line in Florida making aluminum garage doors.
During our brief break, an older Black gentleman asked about why I was quitting.
When I said I was going to Korea, he guffawed. He had spent some time in Korea, and had one piece of advice..
Don't buy a "custom suit" in Itaewon.

Apparently, he was at a dinner party and noticed a stray thread which he pulled at.
Then his sleeve fell off. He tells it better, but I'll never doubt his story, because he laughed so hard.
"Nothin' you can do then, just pick up the sleeve, and walk home."

I've gotten three custom suits in Iteawon and had no problems with any of them. I'll be going back to the same tailor again in a couple of weeks to get a new three piece suit.

I use Mercury Tailor - it's near McDonalds and the cost runs about 300,000 per suit, more depending on material chosen.

I have had 2 made.

The first was from 'Buddy' at Manchester tailor. He's down near McDonald's and solicites on the street. It was 2 or 3 years ago and cost me 250K. Good suit, no dramas.

The 2nd was last month from Hahn's. He's on the corner near the entrance to the Itaewon strip. It cost me 400K, though I didn't haggle as I am bollocks at it. Again, nice suit, no dramas.

In terms of service, Manchester tailor felt like going to a used car dealership (ie is he ripping me off???) while Hahn's seemed a lot more professional and extremely polite (which doesn't say that they are necessarily more honest).

Finally, while I have never been there, some mates of mine have good things to say about the 'Joker' tailor. I think he is near Outbacks, in the basement.

Hope this helps.

J.

Mole, that was the funniest story I've heard on the board in a long time. I burst out laughing as I pictured the sleeve just falling off cartoon style.

If you're gonna blow money on a suit, try the tailors around the Westin Chosun Hotel by the City Hall subway station. Itaewon has good tailors, but I hear the ones by the hotel have higher craftsmanship and quality. Of course, it'll cost you more (around 600k to 700k) but as Esquire says, in fashion, there are no bargains.

One can buy a US$5,000 suit in New York, when it's better and cheaper to fly to Milan and get a US$1,500 suit custom made there.

Each has his own favourites, but having seen some of the "low-end" suits from Itaewon, 'tis better to buy a ready made. Now, I've used one tailor in Itaewon for 8 years or so.

In that time, he's made me about 6 jackets, 6 pairs of trousers, 5 suits, overcoats and one dinner suit. The prices are not the cheapest and start at around 450,000 for a simple two-piece with one pair of trousers. He copied an old 100% cashmere jacket of mine (the moth got it) and for that single jacket the price was 450,000.

He's London Tailor, opposite the firestation, under Helio's I think.

The stuff I had made in Thailand some years ago was second rate at best.

I had a suit made by MVP Tailor (about 200 meters closer to Itaewon Station than McDonald's) for about $250. Good stitching and material, and both sleeves are still attached!

The owner seems sincere enough but he is still a business man so....

I always tell my friends that the world is absurdly funny. I laughed pretty big at this.
