I have some questions about using your PS# in novel and innovative ways. I'm especially interested in the PSP.

Has anyone surfed the net using one of these devices?
Downloaded RSS feeds or Podcasts?
Connected a USB keyboard?
Connected other USB devices: phone, camera, mp3 player, scanner or printer?
Which PS# has USB host capabilities?
Is USB mini a common connector type or is it hard to find cables?
Connected to your phone with bluetooth, or other bluetooth device, like a folding keyboard?
Set-up your PSP to access your personalized google homepage, or the like: your YouTube channel, etc?

Basically, I'm trying to get away from the whole desktop/laptop paradigm completely; and trying to figure out whether I can distribute my normal computing tasks across my phone, a mp3 player, and a PSP with a folding bluetooth keyboard; or whether I have to add some kind of handheldPC device into the mix. Right now I am starting to migrate away from desktop apps and storage to online versions, so that part of the equation isn't such a big problem.

My regular computing tasks include: typing, productivity management, listening to music, and especially surfing.

As much as I like speculation, please--your personal experiences are really the only thing that I'm interested in hearing about. Okay, you can speculate if you must, but real-life experience is at a premium.

ps. Is 32 megs the most you can get out of the Memory Stick Duo? My phone has more memory than that!

Now I'm disappointed... I thought that there'd be at least one clever nutter out there who could help me.

I'm somewhat new to the PSP thing, but I'm liking it so far.

I'm only at the stage of games, pics, and music, but there's a lot more that can be done. Internet browsing is possible. Currently, I believe the memory stick capacities are as follows: 4GB, 2GB, 1GB, 512MB, 256MB, 128MB, 64MB, 32MB. I've not even used the 32MB stick that came with the system. I've got a 1GB(Sony) and a 2GB(SanDisk), but I recommend a 4GB...less dragging and dropping and deleting that way.

Nifty one:

Anyway, I recommend taking a look around at www.psp-hacks.com to see what some people have come up with and are coming up with...some amazing stuff.

I'm pretty sure there aren't any USB portson a PS2. DOn't know about the others.

SOmething you probaby know about but I'll mention anyway are mini-apps: basically micro versions of things like office and media player that you can put on a thumb drive (usb drive). That way, any comp. you connect to can automatically use these even if they're not installed on that computer.

Still designed to be used in conjunction with a larger computer, but I thought it might help.

When you finally have a set-up, do share.

But isn't what you're doing basically trying to make a palm/blackberry the hard way?

Sounds basically painful to do.. if not impossible. Wouldn't you have to do extensive hardwiring and programming.

I've been thinking along those lines too. Thanks for the suggestion.

Maybe... that's what I am trying to figure out. I think that it's a question of battery life though. That's why I see three separate devices as better than one. My biggest headache though at the moment is figuring out the keyboard/mouse input; or some alternative to them. A phone keypad just doesn't cut it for me (despite how fast my student can enter data on one).

Painful, maybe... impossible, never Wink I'm becoming one of those nutters who likes to try doing stuff just because he thought it would be cool to see if it would work. I like real-world mental challenges.

Cool. The other stuff is cool too, but requires some explanation.

I'm not sure what the advantage would be to you over a PC, but you can install a number of versions of Linux on a PS3, and USB and Bluetooth devices are compatible. The only downside is that as of right now, if you're running linux, the graphics are not accelerated, to prevent pirated games being played through the operating system. That's a shame because the PS3's graphics system would run HD content more smoothly than my PC.

Web surfing on the PSP is easy with a wireless router (go try it out at Hollywood Grill if you're curious), but not very fun. I've never played with RSS feeds, but Gmail works fine, for example. Without Linux, it's not optimal on a PS3, either, but my wireless mouse/keyboard set work nicely.

The USB in jack is the same as that of Canon cameras. I don't know how popular they are overall, but I have 3 laying around my house now.

Have to get to work, can elaborate later.

Yes, you can buy PS3s in Youngsan, and online at www.enuri.com

Still waiting for price reductions, and trying to decide if I want bluray or hddvd from an xbox or elsewhere.

BTW, I saw an article about a guy who modded his PS3 to run Linux. I guess it wasn't all that hellish to do.

That would be my plan.
