Just wondering if anyone knows of the conditions at the following school:
Brighton language institute
360-15 Jung kye dong no won gu Seoul
I searched around and found some good and bad about Brighton. I was wondering about this particular branch. I googled it and used the search here (lousy as it is), and couldn't find much besides a few horror stories about a the Gwangju branch and an exclamation that the Pusan branch was one of the best. So, anyone? |

i work at one of the busan branches (there are 2). i leave next month to start a new job, but i will say this is definitely the best job i have had since i came to korea in 2003. however i do know another poster worked at a branch in a different city and he hated it. like any chain, the boss is the most important factor. make sure you check him out before you sign. if the boss is good then you can enjoy a nice curriculum (including science, music and art too that you may end up teaching), office hours (a godsend). kids are mostly kindy but dont let that put you off - its a real school for these kids so these kids treat you as their real teacher, not just a hagwon monkey! |

Well, the brief outline of the job (I haven't recieved a contract) says I'll be able to choose between Kindy and Elementary, so I'm not worried about kindy, which I won't teach.
Mind if I ask how much you make, hours, etc? |

Just had an interview with "Amy," who isn't the director but spoke excellent English (director's name is "Susan.") They're going to get me in touch with a teacher from there via email so I can ask questions about living conditions, hours, etc. So far seems like a pretty good gig.
That is, unless anyone has any horror stories.... |

2.0 + 200,000 housing, working hours 10-6 (but with about 2.5 hours of break spread out over the day, every day, and lunch is provided). usual hagwon holidays, pension, health, always paid on time, no **** from the boss (thats a first!).
not very much money at all considering my experience in korea but i was going through a bad patch personally when i took the job and just wanted anything with normal hours. i had a public gig lined up but it was in another city, so i decided against it. my brighton usually takes n00bs though and havent really dealt with experienced teachers, hence the low salary.
still it brought me the change i needed at that time, which was normal hours, job security (well as good as you can get in a hagwon) and most of all no stress. i was burned out and burned up from working in a much higher paying hagwon with more hours and more ****shit for more money.
should get more $$$ in seoul though of course. |
